Hello from Chris in Macon Ga, USA

Hello all, 65 years old, ready to retire engineer. Been playing a couple of years but fell out after a debilitating ice pick headache mixed with COVID. Currently on Grade 2 Module 8 which looked like a good place to start (on boarding did not work). I have a Squire Strat and Orangewood Austen at home. At work I practice with a Chinese Strat clone and a Mustang Micro headphone amp.

Hi Chris, welcome to the community forum. It is OK to start with Grade 2, but it is still useful to listen to all the grade 1 video lessons to check for any missed fundamental advice from Justin. Have fun learning in retirement.

Welcome to the forum Chris

Thanks for the tip, I’ve listened ahead while still focusing on my current module, I’ll do the same to see if there is remedial or missing skills in grade 1.

Hi Chris,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The best advice is to watch all the lessons if you have any doubts, but if after 1, 2 or 3 lessons you think “well I know this” then quickly go to the consolidation lesson at the end… just to be sure

Greetings and see you around,Rogier

Hi Chris, nice to meet you and enjoy your stay in this community for many years, cheers HEC

Welcome to the forum. Great to meet you. Nice thing about learning guitar is the reward of being able to pull a song or two out of your pocket and play it is a great experience. Look forward to hearing more from you

Welcome Chris, good you’ve been learning how to play guitar for now two years. In my case, although I had previous guitar experience I practiced all lessons of the previous version of the beginner course (now called classic) and that helped me to improve my playing. Now I’m practicing select lessons of the new version of the course. At the end is what works for you. Have fun.

Hello Chris.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard
