Hey everyone. 57 year old tech marketing guy and now a novice guitar player. I’ve completed module 8, have the stuck 3/4 chords down and just about ready to advance. Want to work on more songs for a bit longer, then I’ll move on.
I started really practicing in January after getting a cheap Fender dreadnought about a year before. Made a resolution to put the time in and happy that I’ve kept it and made slow but steady improvement. i first tried to teach myself with “Guitar book for Adult Beginners” by Damon Ferrante, but i got a little frustrated with it and felt like I was having to figure out too much on my own. I did some research and tried Guitar Tricks on a free trial and actually thought it was pretty good. During the trial I did some more research and heard about Justin Guitar on Reddit and gave it a try.
I’ve been at it since April and I’m loving the site and the structure. Progress is sometimes slow but it’s always progress. I’ve been on module 8 for 4 weeks and this week was the first week where I nailed the entire practice routine. Felt like a great accomplishment. Honestly, the thing that slowed me down the most was the pain in building calluses on my pinky and ring finger - it took forever!
Anyway, I’m having fun and can’t wait to see what the next 6 months bring.
Hey George, welcome to the community. I’m a retired tech guy, a few of us lingering around here. I started with Justin well over 10 years ago and for me, and you’ll see this comment a lot, it was all about the songs. Once I learned my first simple song all the way through it suddenly became fun and it’s so cool now that I can pull a dozen songs out of my back pocket any time I want. What a cool reward. Look forward to hearing more from you
Hello George. What a great introduction to read. Long may you continue having fun.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
