I am a 23 yo Software Engineering student, finally managed to get enough money to buy a Yamaha C40 and follow my passion.
I love music so much, it is basically magic to me. My goal is to become goooooood and have fun, and play to myself and to friends and family.
I have always been worried that I am not “made for art stuff” since I have always been a STEM guy, been told to focus on what I am good at. But no, I love music and will do it even if I’m bad
at first it was singing, I love singing so much, I tried practicing at home but I kinda plateaued at a mediocre level, because I think it needs feedback and I can’t afford lessons.
Now I was inspired to play guitar by friends and an instagram channel called acoustin2 (oh I hope I can get that good omg), and I instantly fell in love with it.
And I am thrilled to say that maybe art and music IS my thing, I am advancing at a nice pace, I bought my guitar this monday (6 days ago) and now I can play D and A chords and can transition between them around 55 times per minute now (hopefully correctly, mostly). I can follow along the songs without going out of rhythm too much, AND I LEARNED THE SEVEN NATION ARMY RIFF (because it is so very cool, i skipped ahead i know hehe but it’s fun)
I hope I can get to sing while playing because it is so hard right now.
I found out about JustinGuitar through asking chatGPT how I can learn and what resources to follow. And I am so endlessly grateful for Justin and the team here, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing me closer to my passion. I hope one day I am in a position where I can help too.
Nice to meet you, Ghaith! And welcome! I also thought that “I am not made for art” and bought my first guitar at 27. And you don’t need singing lessons, you just need to sing a lot (and I think it is better to do it in a place, where nobody can hear you, so you could you do it without the fear of being laughed at).
Welcome to the community i am glad you found it. There is a ton to do and learn here with a lot of areas to explore. Jump into one of Fannys onboarding club classes to get a lay of the land and see what the site has to offer.
Keep working at the vocals. It takes time to build up you good techniques. And now you have a guitar you can accompany yourself.
Hi Ghaith, welcome to the community forum. I have noticed that many people with technical training and talent are also good at or at least enjoy playing music. Have fun playing guitar and learning to sing with your playing. If you want to make your studies more technical, take a look at Justin’s music theory lessons and course.
