I’m John from Somerset UK. A familiar story perhaps? I first bought a guitar (Fender Gemini II accoustic) in college, some 35 years ago. Played for a couple of years, then it lay under the bed until about 3-4 years ago, when I thought I’d really like to give it a go again. After a bit of rubbish poking around on youtube and going through some of my old music books, I happened upon Justin’s website - was drawn in by the structure, the price and how he teaches. Then bought the app, and went from there.
Now have an East Coast (Andertons) LP style electric in electric blue, which I love, and spend most of my time on that.
Currently mooching / plateauing around end of level 3 and start of level 4 - finding the new MatchMySound app a real test (I think I’ve been missing something!)
Would be good to find somebody to jam with in the area - if you’re out there, let me know (or if you’ve got ideas that may help)
Do find, that even when not making the progress, just playing around is pleasure in itself - so glad I took to the guitar again.
Welcome. Seems to be a lot of “ returning “ players. Just mooching is fun though. I have the same guitar ( EC L1 ) in sunburst and like you, really like it.
Welcome, Johnny,
Nothing wrong with noodling but some structured learning keeps us ‘honest’. Also having a guitar you love to pick up play is important too.
Having reached level three, options are there to look more at what interests you musically. Justin’s App is worth a look; I think it still has free trial ?
I live in central Berkshire, with nobody nearby as far as I know, and a few members dotted around the southern counties.
There’s a Community OM online next month, open to all to be in the audience, and there’s some basic criteria to fulfill in order to play … one of which is to attend first in the audience …
Hope to see you in the future, this is a really nice community to be involved with! Lots of like-minded people who are welcoming & helpful. Have loads of fun with your guitars (pics are always welcome…) and making music!
Hi John, welcome. Good you gave it a go again to the guitar. Just keep doing the exercises Justin proposes and progress will come. Combine the exercises with any other guitar playing you feel in the mood and have fun.
Welcome John. The wonderful lady I share my life with now was born in Swanage, County Dorsett. She’s been across the pond now for many years, but we’ve been there twice to see where she grew up and hung out. Good luck on your guitar journey.
Hello John.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. https://community.justinguitar.com/categories
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the community etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
