Hi. My name is Kate, I’m from Tasmania in Australia. I have recently picked my acoustic guitar up after more than a decade away from it. I’ve been working my way through Justin’s app, and I’m nearing the end of Grade 2. I’m loving the journey so far. I’ve even been able to write a few songs! Looking forward to engaging more with this community.
Hello Tassie!
I swear I’d guessed you were from Tasmania. lol!
I, too, am a beginner, grade 1. I hope you’ll enjoy the journey as I do.
What kind of songs do you write, if I may ask?
Welcome aboard!
Welcome to the forum Kate
Welcome to the forum Katie. There are bunch of great people around here.
Hello TD. I’m glad you’re enjoying your journey so far too!
My songs match my skill level at the moment, but definitely have a folk flavour. My listening in general tends to circulate around folk and blues - Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the likes. How about you?
Welcome growing crowd from down here now
Welcome, Kate!
Hello Kate.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard

Welcome to the community Kate!
Welcome to the community, always great to see another Aussie checking in. Had a great visit to Tassie in 2006. Look forward to hearing more from you
Hi Kate, welcome to the community forum.
Well… I have been a metal head in the 80’s, so my references regarding guitar composition are biased by speed and some insane sort of dexterity. Then I stopped, and begun to open my horizon.
Pink Floyd, and some “sad songs” like Soldier’s Things, from Tom Waits, always rang a bell. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Gary Moore are in my playing list, too.
But recently, because I’m learning to play, I’m into classic country songs, some folk, too, and generally more classic rock. Just to try to enjoy that slow and peaceful music.
