I started on Justin Guitar last year. I’ve been playing rhythm guitar for awhile, but I want to get better and learn some new things. I finished Beginner Level 1. Before moving on to Level 2, I’ve been working on the challenge to be able to play 5 songs on demand, from memory, no chord sheets, no lyrics. I have posted songs 1 through 4 on the Community Recordings > Audio/Video of You Playing section. One more coming soon.
I found Justin Guitar by watching some of the Justin Guitar videos on YouTube. I’m very pleased with the quality of the instruction, the step by step process, and the app is great.
We live in Olive Branch, Mississippi, USA. Olive Branch is right outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Some musical greats with strong connections to the Memphis area are Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, BB King, Carl Perkins, Justin Timberlake, Al Green, Isaac Hayes, DeGarmo & Key, Robert Johnson, Sam The Sham, & of course . . . me, . . . maybe, . . . someday. Memphis is home to the historic Sun Studio, Stax Studio, & Ardent Studios.
I have two Takamine acoustic/electric guitars, one is black & the other natural.
Hi Robert, welcome to the community forum. You provided me with an interesting geography lesson. I am from Raleigh, NC and have traveled to Nashville, TN a couple of times, but never to Memphis, TN. I didn’t realize that the Memphis metropolitan area spilled over into Mississippi. As a fan of Memphis blues and the music out of Stax records, Memphis is one of my future destinations. I am sure that you get a lot of musical inspiration from your close proximity to Memphis.
P.S. You forgot to mention the great Steve Cropper from Stax records and Booker T and the MGs. Also Albert King recorded Born Under a Bad Sign at Stax records, but then the list great musicians out of Memphis is probably too long to list
Thanks a lot for that introduction Robert. I saw some of your posted videos and enjoyed them. Really great. What a fantastic part of the world to be in for music. Other than the long list of stars you and others mentioned, I imagine there must be a vibrant live music scene there of local musicians.
I’ve been to Graceland several times. It’s a really cool place to visit. It’s like stepping into a time warp and travelling back to the 70’s. The mansion is furnished exactly like it was when Elvis lived there. It’s about 25 minutes from our house.
I’ve seen a couple of your AVOYP posts, so I don’t have to remind you to have lots of fun!!!
I wish you a joyful & successful guitar Journey!!!
Good luck!!!
Hello Robert. What a great intro and kudos to you for jumping straight in and sharing recordings.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
