Hello from Todd in Tampa FL

Hey all!
I’ve been learning from Justin, off and on, for about 12 years. I have really only played acoustic until about a week ago when I got a used Strat and a modeling practice amp.
In the process, I decided to go back to basics and rediscovered Justin’s lessons. Well, I thought - I have a good grasp of chords and strumming, I can start at intermediate, certainly. That lasted about 10 minutes when I figured out how horrible my technique is for electric. So, I’m working my way through module 2 and learning so much. I was in such a rut of the same old stuff I was comfortable with, I wasn’t progressing at all. Now I’m having a blast with simple power chords and distortion, and I am slowly getting better at controlling my tone, all thanks to his lessons.

Hello Todd, and a warm welcome to the community :hugs:.

I’m starting on electric probably next week. Until now, I’ve only played acoustic. I’m very excited about the differences :star_struck:.

I wish you lots of fun with your new six-string-friend and look forward to hearing more from you .

Welcome Todd. Starting from the beginning should fill in any gaps you have and get you on the right track.

Welcome to the forum. How fantastic the lessons have reinvigorated playing for you. It will be interesting to hear how you find the transition as you progress. Recently I’d restarted guitar with a nylon string electro acoustic - already I’m finding myself contemplating being able to try a full on steel string electric guitar.

Welcome to the community, I’ve got a couple of brothers who live in Florida. I play almost only acoustic, when I grab an electric, I’m quickly reminded of how different an instrument it is. Enjoy both.

Todd, welcome to the community. I also found that going from acoustic to electric is requiring revisiting all the basics to focus on electric guitar technique. You can be a beginner electric guitarist, while playing intermediate acoustic. Have fun and enjoy developing your electric guitar skills.

Oh the difference between an acoustic and an electric does take a while to get used to.

Hi Todd, welcome to the community. Good the electric guitar acquisition became an opportunity to revisit the lessons. Having at least an acoustic and an electric provides a good range of sound choices for different songs and tunes.

Welcome Todd. Acoustic and electric are slightly different instruments each with their own demands. It’s good you recognised your need to step back. Learn songs and have fun.
