Loving Justins guitar course.
I started playing when I was 14 and was a better than average player. Life, school, family, etc got in the way of my pursuing it seriously. Unfortunately, in my mid-20’s, I broke my left hand and was unable to play and that left me really disillusioned, so I gave up trying. But I passed on my love of music and especially the guitar to my son
I’m now in my late 50’s.
A few years ago, my son discovered a talent for bass and guitar and is now playing in bands and studying for his Bachelor of Music at uni.
A couple of years ago, my son bought me a cheap Stratocaster copy second hand for Xmas and said, “You’re going to learn to play again. I’ll help”.
I have steadily made small advances since then in getting the fingers on my left hand to do what I want and discovering Justins course to be a godsend. My first goal is to duet Wish You Were Here with my boy.
Hi Tony,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
If you were better than average you will notice that it helps in the beginning… even if it is only a little, but it is really useful if you have played reasonably befor … but follow everything neatly from the start, that works best… no short cuts (or it has to be theory learning if you have enough time left after /during playing in the beginning
)
Greetings,Rogier
Welcome to the forum Tony
Welcome Tony! What a wonderful son you have. You’ve given him a gift, and now he’s sharing it with you. I hope your natural talent, coupled with the joy of sharing music with your son, is enough to overcome any lingering issues from your broken hand.
Hi Tony, welcome to the community forum.
welcome
Welcome to the community Tony!
Hello Tony & Welcome!!!
What a cool backstory! That’s great to hear your son is helping you learn! Life’s a big circle isn’t it? This Community is here for you as well… we’re a pretty friendly bunch & will at least try to answer your questions!
Good luck!!!

Hi Tony and welcome to the community cheers HEC
Welcome Tony
Tony, welcome to this amazing website. Just saying hi because we are flying to Brisbane on 8/19 and will be road tripping up-to Cape Tribulation !! Quite sure we will enjoy !! From Canada by the way.
Welcome to the community and for telling us your story. You will soon be able to do that duet with your son.
Awesome to meet you. I figure the world needs more Tonys and Australians! Me biased? Maybe a bit.
We lived in Brisbane for a number of years and still get there quite often. If you are into any acoustic guitar / music, there’s heaps in the SE Qld area. Lots of great camping weekends too.
I know a guy that hosts regular jams on the south side, he’s into any music, electric, acoustic, keyboard.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
Hey Tony, welcome and greetings from an absolute beginner here. Have fun!
Hi Tony.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
