. Hello everyone. My names Tony. I am a left handed player new to the guitar world. The last instrument I played was a trumpet and that was in the 80’s. Yes, if you are doing the math,I am over 50 years old. I am enjoying the course. Justin’s a great teach. I’m not familiar with his music selection but I’m managing. I wish you all well on your guitar journey
Welcome to the community. You’ll find there a lot of people here older than you, so feel at home.
Hi Tony, welcome to the community.
Your greeting and nickname raise questions, what is your favorite kind of music and who is Wanda? I’m asking because many people here give their guitars names, and Wanda would be a great name for a beautiful instrument.
Have much fun and good vibes.
Cheers Withold
Hello Tony.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community.
Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.
Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard

Hello Tony. I’m Michael, a left handed player who last played trumpet in the 70’s. Yes, I’m well over 60. I sold the trumpet when I graduated high school. After all, did anyone at a party anywhere ever say, “Why don’t you pull out your trumpet and play so we can sing along?”
Are you learning on a left-handed guitar? After trying both ways, I decided to play right-handed, and am pleased with that choice. Fast strumming will always be a challenge, but my right-hand coordination is improving over time. I feel that I learned how to fret barre chords without too much struggle because I’m using my dominant hand. In either case, have great fun with Justin and his team. They are the best!
Hi Tony,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun ![]()

Left hand guitar. I wouldn’t even know where to start playing trumpet. Music interest are mainly Christian, Gospel, country. I do like the occasional blues. Wanda’s my wife. Maybe I will name my guitar after my wife. Been playing everyday since my birth last November. Two or three times on weekend. Thanks for the message hope to talk soon.
Welcome to the community Tony!
Hello Tony & Welcome!!!
Another older learner & former trumpet player here! Very cool to be starting to learn guitar as a 50+ year old… takes a bit more effort to learn as we age but it can be done! There’s a thread here for “Old Dogs” learning new tricks… check it out - some inspiration to be found there! Also, check out Justin learning to play lefty - he calls himself Nitsuj - you’ll find the Nitsuj videos on the website!
Not sure this is a great idea - I can envision some raised eyebrows if you were to tell your buddies “Gotta go home & play with Wanda guys!” ![]()
Have lots of FUN playing guitar!!!
Good luck!!!
Tod from New Mexico
Thank you I will. I’ve been watch Justin or Nitsuj play left handed. It’s interesting. Seeing him struggle makes me laugh and feel better about my level of play
