Hello everyone! I have been doing this Justin Guitar thing off and on for a year or two. I took it serious in the past 8 to 10 months. I am working on my strumming patterns now and I’m on the beginner level two. I have found that the songs tend to be somewhat repetitive in my current skill set and I get kind of bored with the same four chord progressions. I do find that I like doing the old “mash up” when I’m just playing for me.
I really like the fingerstyle mixed into the lessons. I’m currently working on nothing else matters and can do part of it. I will say I have read many of the topics here but have not posted before but you all have kept me motivated to continue! Thanks everybody!
Greetings from a next-door neighbor in Minnesota.
Greetings from someone about as far away from being next-door in Australia.
Great to meet you. Fingerstyle is a lot of fun and my first love with acoustic guitar.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
Also far away: Warsaw, Poland, but sending my warmest greetings and welcome, nonetheless ![]()

Welcome to the community!
Welcome to the group. I’m Jeff from San Diego California. I was born in Milwaukee and spent my youth watching the brewers play at county stadium where the movie major league was filmed with Bob hurler and Charlie sheen. Good memories but haven’t been back in forever.
I get what you’re saying about it being boring if you go step by step by the book. My advice is mix it up and start playing the songs you love right away. Keep it fun or you will want to quit, record your progress and enjoy small victories. The most important thing is to enjoy the journey. I went from being awful and discouraged to playing on stage last night here. You will get there and you don’t need to be perfect or a master before moving on. If something isn’t clicking put it on the shelf and move on for now.
Hello Zach & Welcome!!!
Having fun is the key!!! Keep a smile while playing & you’ll never stop!!!

Welcome to the community Zach! I was originally from Michigan, but moved to Florida like other old, retired people. ![]()
Hello from Montreal Quebec,
I’m in the exact same boat—constantly on and off. I’m currently at Level 2, but I’m honestly not a fan of the songs in the course. Right now, I’m working on ‘Nothing Else Matters.’ I’ve been perfecting that hammer-on/pull-off section in the intro (7h8p7p5), which is a lot of fun!
I mostly play fingerstyle, which was actually my main motivation when I started two years ago. Back then, my fretting hand was so weak I just couldn’t handle it, but it’s finally getting better now.
Keep practicing, enjoy!
I’m reminded of an old Jerry Seinfeld line: “My parents moved to Florida recently. They didn’t want to, but they’re over 60, and that’s the law.”
Hi Zach,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun ![]()

Yep, pretty much! ![]()
Hello, fellow WI person, I am in the Milwaukee area! I suggest continuing through the classes/videos until the next class or videos that interest you. I completed the full course and there was some areas that I rapidly sped through because I couldn’t focus on it or I just wasn’t feeling it. You can always go back and revisit those topics. It was the best strategy for me to fully complete the course and I’m glad that I did. I also just found songs, in the app that I liked, and began practicing those along with the course… more options in the song app area then what is suggested in the class. But once you get through more classes, there’s way more songs available. ![]()
Thanks for joining us Zach!
Btw…wonderful landscape, the details are clearer and the colours brighter when you are not in a hurry and take the time to admire them!

Hello Zach.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community.
Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.
Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
