Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words.
And you are absolutely right: After years and years of just trying but not getting anywhere, it feels great to watch my own progress now. I’m so glad I’ve found this incredible website - and the great community.
Thinking of the anniversary, I just wish I had discovered JustinGuitar 20 years ago … seems that I’ve missed a lot, and the fun could have started so much earlier.
And yes, I still hit the keys - it’s a lot of fun, too.
Thanks a lot for your warm welcome and kind words.
Last Saturday I’ve enjoyed your great performance in the livestream a lot.
You and the other performers did a great job, and I was very impressed how advanced a lot of students are.
This is very motivating, and it feels good to be a (very small) member of this great community now, too.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and the Community. I’m arriving late to the hello and welcome party.
It seems to me you’ve got many things sorted and planned in your learning - good stuff.
There are many good folk here who will happily offer help and encouragement to those coming up behind them on Justin’s Beginner Courses. They embody and carry the pay-it-forward ethos we have nurtured for many years in our community. There are many old hands too who have years and (hopefully) a bit of wisdom they can bring as they give their support to those hitting the road blocks - which we all do.
Just ask if you need anything else.
Cheers

The trumpet is Looooooong Goooooone! My mother bought it on a payment plan & it was awful when I practiced at home…
So she just stopped making the payments & it was repossessed! A man actually came to our home & demanded the trumpet!
I was crushed… at least it was the one & only time that’s happened in my life!!!
so sorry to read about you trumpet.
But now you are playing guitar!
Isn’t this just great?
Well, the trumpet is a nice instrument for sure … but … guitar is much cooler, isn’t it?
Thank you so much for your kind message and the warm welcome.
Yes, I’ve been here for some time now, and I’m enjoying every minute on the website and in the forum. I’m so happy with everything here.
Your advice for the correct technique of muting strums in the “Summertime Blues” had been very helpful. I experimented a little, and then it worked. Thanks again for helping me with this issue and your lightning fast response!
I’ve finished Grade 1 now and can’t wait to start Grade 2. So many exciting stuff coming up there (Powerchords! , and … and … and …)
But I’ve decided to spend some more time on consolidation first, playing (beginner) songs, improving my new skills and just enjoying the ride.
And recently I’ve discovered ear training and music theory. So much more exciting stuff! I don’t want to rush through these great lessons, even if it’ll take more time. Just like Aerosmith had put it once: “I don’t want to miss a thing”
For the upcoming open mic on Saturday I would like to wish you the very best for your performance. Sadly, I’m going to miss this one, but I’m sure it’ll be lots of fun and a great pleasure for all performers and members in the audience.
Now I’d like to send a huge “Thank you!” again to you, Justin, and the entire team of JustinGuitar. It is amazing and incredible what you are doing here for all of us.
I’m so happy to be here, a little late maybe, but at least just in time for the 20th anniversary.
Yes, Gunhild!
Cooler & considerably quieter - at least the acoustic guitar is!!!
I do remember my Mom saying several years later (when my younger brother wanted to play the tuba) that when I was “exiled” to practice in our garage, the neighbors complained! Also, she was planning to take the trumpet back when the guy showed up demanding it! So, it was an apology of sorts - my parents never said they were sorry!
I still have dreams of playing a cornet like ‘Ol Satchmo, Harry James or Wynton Marsalis… I wonder what my wife would think ….
Belated welcome to the community @Gunhild Looks like you’ve got a good guitar and amp collection going there to support you in your guitar learning journey! Like you I tried to learn the guitar at a much younger age but never got far either, until I found Justin’s guitar courses and this amazing community.
Wishing you many years of joyful music making with your guitars
A belated welcome Gunhild. I see having found the black and white back in the day, I am glad to see you have not only rediscovered the B&W but also the Red & Black. That’s a nice little duo you have there !
Thanks a lot for your welcome and kind words, Toby. Oh yes, I like my faithful duo a lot, B&W is about 30 years old, R&B is just a 2 year old youngster.
Both have patiently waited for someone who can actually play them … and finally it seems that I’ve found the perfect place here. It is so much fun to follow the course and the song tutorials - and the community is just awesome
Welcome! And you’ve got great taste in music. I know the exact tutorial that you’re talking about, since the JG tutorial on “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was one of the first (and also one of the few, to be honest) songs that I really sat down and learned. I remember my excitement when I finally got the strumming pattern down. Keep working through the lessons, practicing, and picking up a crazy number of Queen songs!
Hello Roy
Thank you so much for your welcome and kind words.
Yes, the tutorial for “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” is great - and congratulations for getting the strumming pattern down
I’m still working on it. Only just passed Grade 1 of Justin’s course, so this one is much too advanced for me actually. But maybe I’ll get there someday …
Have lots of fun with your guitar, too
Thanks for visiting my little “Hello”-thread (again).
I have an announcement to make …
I’m an “aficionado” now
Yeah, forum had called me one, so it must be official.
Found a badge this morning - and had to read the explanation first to learn what this is about.
I got this badge for “visiting 100 consecutive days”.
That’s interesting. So what have I just been rewarded for?
100 days of spending time here in this great community
100 days of learning about guitar and getting tons of new information
100 days of chatting with awesome people all over the world in the most kind and helpful community you could ever imagine
100 days of entertainment and edutainment
100 days of just having fun
So I get a reward for this?
I’m happy to accept it! Thank you very much!
Maybe I won’t consider myself as a “newbie” from now on.
Still a total beginner on guitar of course, but not completely new here in this community. Feels great!
Mhhh, I have to admit that there’s a second, more accusing voice in the back of my head, mumbling “You’ve just been rewarded for spending too much time on the internet!”
Well, that may be true
But no regrets.
I’m enjoying every minute here and can’t wait for the next 100 days … weeks … months to come!
Looking forward to speak to/read/hear from all of you soon.
Another milestone, Gunhild, isn’t it? I remember when I first discovered my stats and was completely shocked by the amount of time I’ve spent here and about all those read and written posts. I couldn’t believe that and had a short inner discussion with myself…but it turned out, that I really enjoy this daily routine to join the crowd here, as it’s a very friendly and supportive place. I don’t know, if my learning experience without the community would be as satisfying as it is…probably (better: for sure) not! Happy, you joined the community, have a lot of fun on your journey and 1000s of hours of fullfilling guitar practice!
