Hi, I’m new here, just two or so weeks. 70 years olds. Starting at the very beginning of the course and really enjoying it. I’ve dabbled with the guitar off and on over the years since I was a kid, but never seriously. I’ve got a few guitars, both electric and acoustic so am trying out both types. I will settle on one to focus on soon.
Welcome to the forum Neal
Welcome to the community Neal!
Great stuff, welcome to the community!
Learn on electric (its more forgiving) consolidate of acoustic (it will make you honest).
Welcome onboard Neal.
Welcome, Neal. I’m from Worcester, also not England. Gad you joined!
Welcome to the group from another old fogey. I’ve never been to Massachusetts, but my paternal line traces back to near you (Chelmsford) in the mid 1600s. And congratulations to Boston University for making it to the hockey Frozen Four!
Hi Neal,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
Greetings,Rogier
Hi NeaL nice to meet you cheers Hec
Welcome Neal from Boston!
Hi Neal, welcome to the community forum. Starting at the beginning is advice you will hear often on this site. I’m 69 years old and had played guitar on and off for years and I started at the beginning. There is no need to choose acoustic or electric any time soon. I’m in grade 4 and I still play both acoustic and electric. Have fun learning songs.
Welcome Neal, I’m into it just over a year now and enjoying it immensely, along with my other instruments I dabble with. It’s coming along. I’m at the middle of grade 2 now, taking my time, reviewing, and just enjoying playing for my own amusement in western NC. You’ll love it. Never too old to learn, and momma ain’t making you play!
Boston, or Boston environs?
I remember going to club Passim, The Plow and Stars, and others in the 70’s and 80’s
Maybe I saw you there?
Welcome to the group. Great folks here to support you on your, return, journey.
Bruce
Thanks! Woburn technically. I have been to Passim a couple of times but not the Plow.
Hello Neil & Welcome!
Good luck with the Journey… remember to keep it Fun!!!
Tod from New (NOT OLD) Mexico!
Welcome Neal! I hope you are enjoying your guitar journey and feeling good about the progress you have made.
I don’t know if Justin/others suggest choosing one guitar and sticking with it as far as electric vs. acoustic goes, but I felt as though it’s nice to do both sometimes - whatever feels right that day. Variety is the spice of life, right?
I play both pretty much every day. The electric is clearly easier to play, but some types of music I like to play only works on acoustic.
Hello Neal.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
