Hello--I'm Robert

Hello,
Started JG lessons in mid-September as an absolute beginner, turned 70 in October, and have earned my calluses. Working on fast chord changes (A, D, and E) and strumming. Surprised about how hard that is–began using a metronome in earnest 2 weeks ago. Hope to learn a few songs one day. Nice group of folks you have here.

Hello Robert & Welcome!!!

Good to hear that you are in the “Never too old to teach this Dog new Tricks” group!!!
It’s a good bunch of people here in the Community, don’t be afraid to ask for help if/when you need it! There’s a lot of good information to be had using the search button too!
I recommend to get a stand or wall hanger to “newbies”, if your guitar is readily at hand to pick up, you’ll find that you will use those few spare moments while you’re waiting for something… a show to start or in my case, for the coffee maker to finish! Those 5-10 minutes here & there really add up!!!
Also, don’t neglect the “fun factor”. If practice starts to feel like work, do something else - always keep it FUN!!! You’ll avoid burnout & negative thoughts that way!
Good luck!!!

P.S. What part of the world is home? Also, what are your musical interests & goals?

Hello Robert

Welcome to JG, I joined 18 months ago and am rapidly approaching 70😱 Three tone in my life I stopped playing guitar but this time I’m keeping going, JG has inspired me to and the support and advice of folks on here is great.

Have fun on your guitar journey.

Welcome Robert. Glad you found the community. You will for sure find a few songs soon if you keep chugging away. Chugging haha pun intended

Those calluses are earned arent them. You will put them to good use and then you will shape them even more.

Looking forward to seeing more of you posts. Welcome to the community.

Hi Robert. I remember two years ago posting a list of ten songs I wanted to learn to play once I could actually strum and make chord changes. Now I can play them, and that’s the reward for overcoming finger pain, sour notes and generally clumsiness.

Be sure to check out this thread. It’s a fun place to commiserate with the geriatric Justin Guitar folks. I’m a spry 67 years old.

Many thanks!! I will check it out.

Welcome brother. Seems you found the right place. Take it easy and work through the practice. The learning processes is as fun as the music making sometimes.

Hi Robert, welcome to the community. If you go to the song lesson section in the JG website and select the chord filter and click on A, D and E and it will show you 50 songs that you can play now. Have fun starting to learn all of those songs that you like. I’m 70 and I found a lot of songs in the list that I like. So have fun.

Hi Robert and welcome to our Community! Keep up the practice with the metronome, it’s normal to find it challenging and you’ll see for yourself how it is a real game changer. I’m pretty sure you’ll learn a few songs one day, maybe sooner than you would expect! Enjoy the journey and celebrate the big and small victories along the way…and we’re here to share and support eachother
