I have tried Classical and Flamenco guitar for years. But I always wanted to learn strumming as well as I love Rock music. I discovered Justin whose performance I found amazing. Unfortunately I can never decide between the different guitar styles and want to much.
Welcome to the forum Herbert
Welcome to the community Herbert! Unless you are looking to be a performer, I don’t know that you have to decide. I mostly play acoustic both fingerstyle for myself and rhythm to play songs with my wife who is learning bass. I have an classical guitar that a friend gave me that I pick up from time to time. I have been learning blues on an electric with Justin and a couple of resonators that I play a bit of slide guitar. I enjoy them all for different reasons and bounce between them as my inspiration changes. Enjoy the ride!
Willkommen, Herbert!
I take Justins’s lessons and then take “holidays” every now and then in styles I just feel like visiting, and come back to continue the course then…
Hello Herbert, welcome to the community forum. It is possible to play everything in the beginning lessons with a classical or flamenco guitar and strum with a finger or finger and thumb for some strums. See the lesson in Module 0: How to Strum Without a Pick. Then later when you get an acoustic or electric guitar you can play through the lessons again using a pick.
Welcome to the Community, Herbert.
Welcome Herbert! Many of us suffer from the too-many-things-to-choose-from challenge. One way to manage that, at least at the beginning, is to follow Justin’s beginner course from the first lesson. Even if you know the material, Justin will introduce information that is new to you. Most of us also identify bad habits we’ve developed, and use this opportunity to correct them. And following the lessons keeps you focused! Hope to see you around the Community.
Hi Herbert,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
Greetings,Rogier
Griaß di Herbert und herzlich willkommen!
Nice to meet another Bavarian here, I live pretty close to Munich (down south).
Wish you lots of fun with Justin’s courses. When you are interested in strumming, maybe try out Justin’s set of 3 Strumming courses https://www.justinguitar.com/store/strumming-sos
Hello Herbert and welcome to JG community.
I am not sure about your skill, but if you follow from Grade 1 and level up… Justin will give you taste of strumming, fingerstyle, powerchords etc. So maybe going through base can show you the way.
It is all good advice Herbert fill your boots do a bit of everything I did and I loved it Cheers Hec
welcome to the community
Hello Herbert
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
