Help me choose my first electric guitar

Iā€™m looking to buy my first electric guitar and Iā€™m confused between these 2 models:
HEX T200 SG/VB & SQOE SEST700 HSS (Aztec gold)

I like the sound (in videos) of the golden strat, and despite how many people say it I still feel that Stratocasters are more versatile when compared to telecasters.
But I have also heard that telecasters are good for beginners because they are simple. And I dig into the look of the Hexā€™s flamed maple top and the unique cut out in the bottom. It looks rare. The shape of the headstock is a turn-off for me though. And on the other hand, the golden strat is eye-catching as well.
This is just going to be my practice guitar at home.

So this is easy ā€¦don`t buy that one

Have fun with buying and enjoying in advance :sunglasses:

Greetings ,rogier

Remember to look at amplifiers as well.

There are a lot of questions on the forums about amps, so lots to read on the subject.

I read your bio - donā€™t worry about managing the cord. It is not that much effort after you get used to remembering it is attached.

Thank you
I have finalized Blackstar ID core v4 after some research. It looks pretty solid

I think that both guitars can be simple to learn if you follow the course step by step.

That specific strat has two different kind of pickups (single coil and humbucker), so indeed this can be fun if you want to try different sound in a few months without having to buy another guitar.

Is there one that you like the look more ? One that you feel that youā€™d like to pick up everyday with a smile ? I think thatā€™s the thing that will make the biggest difference in the long term.

That is the thing. That I find both guitars attractive in different ways. I wish I could have both.
What do you think is better for a beginner? I am more into rock music. But I was considering a tele because Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead) plays it. And also, I was inspired by Princeā€™s solo in ā€˜While my guitar gently weepsā€™. And in that journey, I found this beautiful and unique telecaster.

Iā€™m pretty sure that both guitar will be fine for a beginner as Justinā€™s course works well with any kind of guitar.

In theory, the humbucker on the bridge of the Strat will give you a more crunchy sound for rock. In practice, most of the tone come from the amp so youā€™ll be able to achieve good rock tone with the tele too. I have a friend who does it really well.

The good news is that there is no good or right answer, so you canā€™t go wrong in your choice

Iā€™m biased because I like a Tele so Iā€™d pick the Tele but neither are bad choices and you can play rock with either.

Itā€™s true that the 2 types of pick up on the Strat give more options but thereā€™s also an argument for making the best of what you have and going with the simplicity of the Tele.

If you really canā€™t decide, toss a coin and commit to itā€¦ no sneaky best of 3 or that suggests you secretly did have a favourite!

If itā€™s a straight choice between these two, then donā€™t over think it. Buy the one you like most. Theyā€™ll both be just great.

However, if at all possible go to a shop and play some, and think about buying second hand, plenty of bargains should be available on the 2nd hand market.

I tried looking for 2nd hand guitars, but the options are less and the good guitars are expensive :frowning:

Okay. Your coin toss idea, helped me decide that I liked the tele slightly more.
So I just ordered it  :guitar:

Thank you @math07! I finally decided to go with the Hex T200. Most of the artists I admire, rock out with a tele, so I guess it is a huge motivation point for me.

Enjoy, Iā€™m sure youā€™ll be very happy with it. At the end of the day, Fender continue to sell Teleā€™s and Stratā€™s by the truck load because theyā€™re both great guitars.

Iā€™m good at making decisions when I can apply some logic to it, x is better than y becauseā€¦ but thereā€™s some decisions where thereā€™s no wrong answer, like choosing between your 2 favourite flavours of ice cream (assuming both is not an option :joy:) where you just go with your gut or toss a coin and you can then stop torturing yourself with a choice where either outcome is good!

Hahaha. Absolutely true!

Not to make things more complicatedā€¦ BUT - I personally could not bond with a Tele because of itā€™s sharp edges. Playing it standing up for a longer time caused a lot of pain in my right (picking) forearm. I would recommend trying to sit with and holding a Tele shaped guitar before deciding. The ā€œcomfort cutsā€ in the body of a typical Strat means itā€™s a much more comfortable guitar for me.

However, many other people donā€™t have the same experience that I doā€¦ so perhaps youā€™ll be just fine!

My vote would go for a Strat-styled guitar, and ideally with a humbucker in the bridge position if you want to play rock. Itā€™s quite hard to get most rock tones out of a single coil bridge pickup.

EDIT: I just saw that the gold strat you liked is indeed in HSS configā€¦ well, that makes it even more of a recommendation from my side

Thanks @Kasper! I already ordered the Hex Telecaster. And checkout these images. This is a slightly modernized telecaster with those comfort cuts in it.
