Could someone advise me about Strat wiring? I’m a bit lost
I’m building a Strat partscaster with an SSS pickup configuration and a standard wiring setup. I bought a wiring kit from Tube Amp Doctor (in Germany). The kit is supplied with all the necessary parts. There are 3 wires included in the kit: Black and white, plus a pre-tinned copper wire.
The wiring diagram is shown below. It’s really clear to me where the black and white wires have to be soldered and this corresponded with what I saw on some videos. However, I don’t see in the diagram where the tinned copper wire should be soldered. Does anyone know?
The only thing I could think of is perhaps it’s for the wire labelled “ground bus wire” because its easier to solder one wire across the 3 pots if the wire does not have a cloth covering and is pre-tinned.
However, in the product description it’s described as - Switching wire, copper wire tinned Ø 0,91mm / 33 A - which suggests it’s something for the switch(?)
This doesn’t seem to be clearly explained on the wiring diagram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hoped to get this done over the holiday period so I don’t think I’ll get an answer from Tube Amp Doctor until after the holidays.
Thanks in advance and happy holidays !!!
Ian

Hi Ian I can help you no problem but I am not back in my home for another 2 or 3 hours if you can wait that long I can help you cheers Hec
My first thoughts are that it is the ground bus wire ie the negative from your jack plug, if you wire everything up that is easy then send me a photo we can sort this out later today or DM me later if you wish cheers Hec
Hi Ian,
The black wires are generally the common. The common is the set of wires that tie into the top of the pots and eventually the outer conductor at the output jack.
There are often white wires coming off the pickups. My kit has white, yellow, and red to distinguish the pickups more easily. These are the signal wires that you will connect into the switch.
The loose end is probably black, and should fit thru a hole in the body to the metal piece that the bridge springs hook onto.
If this is not enough, maybe you can take a picture of your kit layed out like you think it will look and we can check it or make adjustments. If it helps, I can take some pictures of my kit and we can get you in the right direction.

Thanks @DeltaTyne and @sequences for your replies. I contacted the person who sold me the kit (who also builds guitars) and he confirmed that it is the ground bus wire as Hec suggested. I was quite surprised to get a reply from him at this time of the year.
