I would like to ask you for few minutes… I am learning Unchained Melody by Six String Fingerpicking and I am writing down the TABs by what I see and hear.
I got full TABs but this chord “Bb” when I play it like Chris in video… just does not sound like he play it.
Can anyone please check if my TAB is right?
I think he is playing it like this, meaning he is barring with index finger. Only difference I do he is holding barre with ring finger too? But I am using here middle and ring finger like F barre chord shape.
I assume you play it with a capo on 2nd fret, just like he does. As for the Bb chord, he is using only four strings, so you don’t have to bar the first fret with your forefinger. It’s enough to press the first fret on the A string, then bar D, G and B strings on the third. For me it’s easiest with my pinky, but he does it with his ring finger.
Thank you all very much. I am gonna try it immediately when I get home.
I think you found the problem why sound did not match - the melody note.
I played on B string fretted 1st and not 3rd note.
It also makes sense why he is helping to ring with middle so the bar in this place is better to hold without putting all pressure into ring only.
I would not try to replicate his hand position when playing that barre.
His little finger has disappeared behind the neck and his wrist angle looks uncomfortable. All you need is to arch your 1st finger up and over the other strings with a relaxed hand position and have fingers 2, 3, and 4 close to one another while either 3rd or 4th finger holds the barre.
@Richard_close2u Can you show me please exact picture of this? I am trying to do it like this at work, using my right hand as fret board.
And it looks extremely hard and I cant imagine to do that in tempo right.
@jjw Yeah… I found this version but it looks that ring finger needs to be really muscle.
I found on YouTube this and even when I am not teached about CAGED, I think this is one of moveable shape many guitarist use. I think Paul Davids is using it too.
So is not it valuable to learn it here too?
I play with this chord shape a bit, though I am not good enough with it to be able to throw it down in a song yet. Still, this shape is probably the one that I’ll be able to use in a song first. Even before E-shape ones. I think it has to do with my pinky finger control, which is not great.
My instructor first taught me the 1st finger barre, 2, 3, 4 method and I struggled with that one. Honestly I find the 1st finger barre and 3rd finger barre to be far easier, which is amusing to me.
@Mustela Thanks for sharing your experience.
I already tried that A shape and its… doable. I just need to do one minute changes and it will come. I also tried that “double” barre version and I can already feel its easier in some ways. I think Tommy Emmanuel play this double barre a lot.
the way my instructor introduced it to me was sort of as an extension of teaching me to barre an open A chord as an alternate fingering for some songs (he introduced a song to me where that particular chord grip worked well for a change in that song).
