I have tried to transcribe this song for guitar:
What I have got so far is:
No capo, standard tuning
Verse:
F#m - A - E - D
F#m - A - E - F#m
Chorus:
F#m - D - A - E
But it doesn’t sound quite right. What am I doing wrong?

The only tab sheet on ultimate guitar seems to agree with your findings:
Sometimes the song can be detuned post recording or make sure you’re in tune.
Alternatively, it could be played in non open chords: you could try a capo on fret two…
not familiar with the song or artist, but that would be my process.
