Hi everyone! I got my first electric guitar a few days ago and I am DETERMINED to get good at playing. I LOVE Green Day sm and they are basically the reason I got into playing. I am a complete beginner so any help is appreciated! Currently, I’m learning the song Brain Stew (everyone says it’s the easiest GD song to play). I try to practice a bit everyday so I’m excited to start reading the chapters!
Anyways, I hope to make some real friends and we can help each other grow!
I think you’ll find that Justin will help you to learn as much guitar as you can imagine! This Community is very helpful also, lots of topics with answers already, just use the “search” function or ask & everyone is very friendly & helpful!!!
My advice to total newbies is always to get a stand & keep the guitar handy… then you can play for a few minutes here & there… I play scales while my coffee’s brewing!
Keep it fun - also, the finger pain goes away pretty quickly!!!
Enjoy your new guitar. An exciting time indeed!
Stick close to Justin’s lessons, and reach out here anytime; its a great community.
And, most importantly, have fun, and be kind to yourself.
Hi Zoey and welcome to the community!
Heaps of helpful folk here and plenty that are also familiar with learning Green Day tunes. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions
Have fun!
Nice Zoey, I always loved Greenday, plus they are from good old Penole CA.
Keep punking it up and do all of justines lessons starting at the begining, he has so much packed into his beginning series, that if you skip around you will miss stuff. Also I was suprised how much I missed when I started learning song I was not 100% stoked about from the song list. But then wow that technique is so helpfull why didnt I know that? Kind of thing, I figured that out once I started using the filters in the song list. (It was a, ‘Should I learn all the songs from his beginner song book1’? type thing)
At first I was like im not learning any counrty songs, but then I realized they really are helpful with rhythm and chord changing. If you can play Country well you can play rockabilly so yeah good stuff all around.
Keep working justins program and you will be all over the neck in no time.
Beginner here too. I’ve been following the guitar course and the Practical Music Theory course. My thoughts are take it slow, try to get everything solidly under your belt as move through. I just love playing and singing so my course following is quite slow because as I learn and become comfortable with techniques, chords or whatever I wander off track and start learning more songs I like
I’m a Green Day fan too so my advice, as you learn chords, find songs that you know and can relate to and enjoy the journey.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the community etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
