Hey, JG community! My name is Jackson and I’m from Louisiana, U.S.A. I’m about to turn 15 and I am an avid guitar player, collector, and tone junkie.
I first got into guitar at age 8. My parents purchased me a cheap Kona acoustic, and I gave up after about a month due to lack of commitment, skill, and my blasted tiny hands.
Fast forward about 4 years and my grandmother gave me a beautiful Cordoba classical for Christmas. I was immediately hooked, and I dove right in. I taught myself to read music and play all of the notes in the open position from an old Hal-Leonard guitar book from Amazon. As I finished the book, however, I was disappointed to find that it only taught three chords.
And that’s how I found JustinGuitar!
I’m currently at the end of grade three and I’m pumped to dive into the blues in grade four.
Since I found this epic site I’ve acquired a gorgeous Epiphone Acoustic, A Squire Strat that I rebuilt myself, and an awesome Ibanez RG. I love to play Rock, Blues, Country, and worship, and I look forward to learning with the JG community.
Fantastic. There is an amazing feeling when you take a worn down busted up instrument and turn it into a functional sounding music making badass machine. Great job. Glad to have you onboard.
Welcome Jackson! You’re self-taught on classical, technically adept, and 15 years old!?!? I’m impressed! I’m guessing this is advice you don’t really need, but I’ll say it anyway: be sure not to skip or rush through lessons in the early grades. There are lots of golden nuggets in those lessons. I suspect you’ll progress quickly compared to many of us (ok, compared to me!) Looking forward to seeing you play.
Hey Jackson, G’day from down under. Great to meet you. Look forward to hearing more from you. For me it’s always been about the songs. Once I learned my first song all the way through I was motivated to keep learning more.
