Hi, everybody.
As I’m a new member here, a couple of words about me.
My name is Jacek Klimkiewicz, I live in Warsaw, Poland.
I’m 68 y.o., retired IT manager. I used to play guitar in 70’s, then I had 40 years break. Seven years ago I decided to get back to this hobby and I found out that guitar world (at least in Poland) changed dramatically, mainly in terms of gear accessibility. So I bought an electric guitar, a modelling amp and I started the guitar adventure.
I play only for my own pleasure jamming with a looper. Sometimes I record something on my computer, so I hope to be able to share some of my “one man gigs”.
The person who motivated me to join this community is my brother Tomasz, (also known here as coda).
P.S. Speaking English is definitely NOT my strongest skill, so I apologize in advance for all mistakes…
Hi Jacek,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun.
Very nice for you that you have taken up your old hobby again after a 40 years break and have now ended (started) up here
Yes, I try also to make that clear to " them " (you know, English people ), but over time and many conversations later, they no longer buy it anymore
Hi Bro,
Glad you followed my advice… You’ll not be disappointed.
Actually, yes, Jacek (it’s not the same as the English name Jack, we pronounce it ‘Yatsek’) is my brother, also fascinated with the electric guitar and its almost infinite possibilities. To his resume I must add that Jacek is very handy with a soldering iron, so I entrust him with all the repairs or mods I need done to my instruments.
Interestingly, we never play together as apparently we prefer different styles and have a different approach to our playing and recording.
Have fun at Justin Guitar, Bro!
Welcome Jacek! You’ll find a lot of older learners here. I started when I was 67, and I’m still at it eight years later. My wife is 100% Polish; her father was a Slowik, her mother a Stachura.
Your English is fine. Since we have English speakers from different parts of America, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, etc., sometimes we don’t understand each other!
Powitalny, Jacek … that is one of the 6 words of Polish that I have …
You have a couple of years on me, in age , and many years in experience.
I thought your “excuse” to buy gear was a bit weak; but I am in no position to take the moral high ground on that ! … G.A.S can be justified on every occasion …
Look forward to hearing you sometime, and keep having fun …
Just want to say that as a native English speaker I struggle to make myself understood at times so I’m sure you’ll have no problems
There are plenty of “older” learners here and your past experience will be a great help
I’m sure your brother @Coda Tomasz has mentioned that this is a very friendly Community, don’t let language skills cause you any anxiety or worry! We’re all here to support, learn & have fun!
Also 68 years old and spent 38 years in IT Operations. Fortunately had a contract to let me loose at 55 !! Got my first guitar in 96 when I was 40 but it was an on off affair until I stopped working and after a few years found Justin. Then never looked back. Great that Tomasz has guided you here and don’t worry an your English it is perfectly understandable.
I am an Englishman living in France and the French have the perfect expression for me “He speaks French like a Spanish cow!”. But hey we can only do our best.
I always figure that anybody speaking English as a second language is speaking it better than I can speak their first language. Too bad the French don’t feel that way.
