Hi All, Jack in Cork

Hi All, Jack here, Cork, Ireland. 36 years young and playing for about 2 years- wanted to play when I was kid, unfortunately I had a mean guitar teacher and she put me off it for the best part of 25 years.

Steady progress made so far and can strum along and finger pick to quite a few songs at this point, loving the journey so far, it doesn’t feel like progress until you look back on what you know that you didn’t at the star. Thank you to Justin and his wonderful platform - you kept my dream alive

Hi Jack ,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :sunglasses:

And by keeping track of where I came from I am so happy that I have my first video of my first minutes of this guitar trip  and advise you to record something as soon as possible (posting is not necessary of course) but just for your own pleasure soon or a lot later …

and seeing yourself playing makes it clear to everyone that they have to adjust uhhh … something

but be kind to yourself and enjoy :sunglasses:

Greetings,Rogier

Hello Jack & Welcome!!!
Good to hear that you’re enjoying the Journey & progressing! Is your guitar an acoustic or electric… or both? Do you focus on a particular style/genre? Hope to see you around the Community! Good luck!!!

Hey Jack, welcome to the community. I had the pleasure of visiting Cork when we did a 3 week trip around Ireland, loved it there!

I recall a guitar teacher putting me off learning by teaching scales far too early in the process. Glad you’ve found a good place to learn. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome, Jack!

Now I am reminded of that irish busker I often saw and really loved! His first song was always “The foggy dew” and his rendition was very nice!

Hope you’ll have lots of fun here!

Welcome Jack, glad you joined us.

And since Tod @CATMAN62 forgot, keep your guitar nearby on a stand so you can pick it up and play whenever the mood strikes.

Hey Catman, thank you for the welcome!

I have a Takamine Acoustic at present, very cool guitar - I had it set up recently by a local Luthier and its like a new instrument, so much easier to play up the frets but I will be looking to purchase an electric guitar later in the year.

I don’t have a particular Genre or style just yet - I’m originally from Liverpool so am obviously a big Beatles fan, so I find myself drawn to alot of acoustic rock covers. I suppose I must gravitate to acoustic rock. I’m also a big funk/ soul/ blues fan though so electric is the natural progression for me at some point!

welcome

Hey Jack!
My favorite acoustic is a Takamine also! I love the ‘playability’ & the sound I get when it’s plugged into my acoustic amp!

Don’t worry about this, my feeling is that unless you’re planning to be in a band, it’s lots of fun to play different styles & genres with maybe a bit more ‘focus’ on your favorite styles.

I think the most important thing with guitar is to keep it FUN!!! If you’re having lots of fun, you’re more likely to pick up the guitar & play/practice more often - the more you’re playing, the better you get & the more fun it is!!!

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you run into problems or have questions - this Community is really good at being helpful!
