Im back to the guitar after a long break, i played a wee bit as a teenager (now 35) did a few lessons but never really got into it, anyway fast forward 20 or so years and i’ve dived back in and really enjoying it, only a week into the lessons but finding the online and app lessons great and already picked up a few tricks already. (i remember a few chords but trying to start from scratch again) getting in about 20-30 minutes practice a day and hopefully increase this with my fingers getting used to it.
Currently using the acoustic electric Ibanez inherited form the old man but have also just ordered a new Telecaster copy (artist AT53) haven’t decided on an amp yet but hopefully pickup something soon.
goal for the next year or so would be able to play some songs from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Neil young The beatles etc
Longer term would be to get good enough to join my cousin in Perth for a Jam session (he recently sent me an audio of him jamming with friends and was actually the driver for me to pickup the guitar again)
Glad to join up. This community looks to be very positive and a wealth of information and support.
Hi Cale, it’s great to meet you in this community, and you are right, this is a brilliant place to hang out. We are all on the same journey. I am certain you will enjoy your stay. Cheers, HEC Newcastle
Hi Cale,
Welcome here and I wish you a long time to play ,35 is so young so so young , taking a look at the average age perperson here…and then when I see/hear what some have achieved in 5 years …
Have fun
Welcome Cale,
My journey was similar to yours. Marriage and babies in the twenties. Then got back into guitar in my 30’s. Enjoy it! Now I am over 50 getting back in again. See you around!
Hey Cale, welcome to the community. My wife is a Kiwi, awesome country, awesome people. Played my first ever open mic in NZ. Thankfully the audience was kind. Perth has a great acoustic / folk community. Look forward to hearing more from you.
Welcome Cale, it’s awesome to read about your short and longer term goals! You know where you’re going, we’ll keep you some good company during the journey
Welcome Cale, and congratulations on getting back at playing the guitar. The course is awesome. I’ve been at it about 1.5 years now, am into grade 3, and look forward to moving on. I think I’ll be ready for BLIM next time it’s offered. Be sure to check out the JG Clubs too. They’re awesome!
I’m seriously jealous of you… finding Justin Guitar at 35… you’re going to be really accomplished if you stay with us till you’ve reached your 50s or 60s!!! Wish I’d had Justin Sandercoe instead of the 2 guys I had at your age… Mel Bay & Hal Leonard!!!
Anyway, good luck & don’t hesitate to ask if you have questions or concerns about guitar… we’re a pretty helpful bunch here in the Community!!!
im really looking forward to the new guitar (hopefully shows up on friday), still havent decided on the amp yet, bit of a rabbit hole. Anyway my fingers are starting to toughen up and the pratice sessions are getting longer so happy with that, i’ll make sure to take a good look around here and join in.
Hello Cale.
Wanting to learn songs and jam with family and friends - great goals.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
