Hey everyone. Im 22 years old and live on the surf coast of Victoria. Well, always wanted to give guitar a crack and was lucky enough to buy an old acoustic for $100. On Grade 1 currently, A, D and E chords are kicking my ass haha. Hopefully I have the grit to tough it out. This forum is pretty motivating though, just by reading everyones stories, I’m grateful its active! Yewwww
Welcome to the forum Jacob
Hi Jacob, and welcome to the community! I’m sure you have the grit to learn guitar…be sure to expect to need a good dose of patience as well. This community is great for those inevitable times we all hit a speed bump. Keep us posted on your progress, and don’t hesitate to check in if (when) you have a question or just want to talk!
Welcome aboard. You are super stoked to pick it up.
Listen, you got the grit. You are 22, your photo looks to be in a tiki club.
Oh yeah shaka You got this. There will be a short time of finger tip pain but it passes quick. You wont even notice because you will so fired up playing some some new lessons of Justins. Learn some cool easy songs too.
Glad you posted up and dont be a stranger, regular posting and contributing will keep you motivated.
Welcome to the forum Jacob; from a fellow Aussie on the NSW surf coast.
Enjoy the forum mate…its a great experience; and stick close Justin’s lessons; these Aussie’s know what they’re talkin’ anout…
Cheers, Shane

Hi Jacob if you need any help just shout out Cheers Hec
Hi Jacob,
everyone is more or less struggling at the beginning!
Hope you’ll have fun anyway and see you around,
Dominique
Welcome Jacob take it easy its a long haul some people think they will be in a rock band after a few weeks and when it does not happen give up, yes you will get bored, frustrated, hit walls you cant seem to break through but you will. record your efforts now for a few weeks then play them back in a couple of months you will notice the difference.
Hello Jacob & Welcome!!!
Justin’s teaching method is fantastic & if you stick to the lessons, you’ll be playing songs in no time - simple ones, maybe, but PLAYING SONGS!!! It’s so cool to learn guitar & at your age…
Man! I wish I was learning at 22 instead of 62!
Also, if you haven’t already, buy yourself a stand or wall hanger so your guitar is always ‘at hand’ & ready to play! I like to use the 5-10 minutes while the coffee’s brewing to practice chord changes or scales!
Good luck & remember to always keep it FUN!!!

G’day Jacob, you’ll find a few aussies lurking around here. Melbourne is the home of some great guitar factories, I had the pleasure of doing the Cole Clark tour a couple of years ago. Also managed to go to the Port Fairy Folk Festival while down that way.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
Welcome Jacob
You’re right this place is great for help and motivation
All the best
Mick
Welcome Jacob. A couple months and you’ll be kicking the ass of A,D and E!
Hey Tony, thanks for the reply. I’m a surf instructor from the Port Fairy surf school, how crazy is that! The Folk festival is so good hey!
sure is! The whole place is special
Nice you get paid to ride, you cant beat that. So when the weather is bad for noobs, that means no lesson and you can get to go ride the big surf. That’s the way. You guys have killer waves down there too.
My wife gave lessons snowboarding and would bump chairs for a free pass during winter back in the Sierra Nevadas in Northern California we would roll over and ride the waves during the off season in Santa Cruz. Have you been to the states or Hawaii to ride? A lot of Aussies visit.
We had a guy stay with us for a month or so, one winter, who was from your home land. He was on the quest. He was totally cool and totally fearless. We just rode good mountains every day. He loved it. He spent a whole winter in Reno and Tahoe with me and my bros. I think he headed to Alaska next.
Yeah, I loved to surf and have been riding since I was a kid but I am old and feeling it.
Haha I am 54 and my boards have been getting longer the older I get. I am still jammed up from catching some bad shore break (all rock and boulders) down in in Southern California. Completely
wreaked my shoulder. totally lame. You just dont bounch back like you dint in even your 30s. But life goes on.
Thank god I can still play guitar.
Anyway I knew looking at your photo what was up. You were having fun. You will have a lot more playing a guitar.
Ride on!
Hi Jacob, welcome to the community forum.
