Hi, all. My name is Laura and I played guitar as a teen for several years but dropped it (wish I hadn’t!). I’ve tried picking it up again a couple of times without formal lessons, and decided to actually focus this time. Now that I’m 62 and retired I’m enjoying it more! I’m struggling with a few chords and remembering how easy it all seemed so long ago…anyway I’m soldiering on and welcome any tips!

Welcome to JG, lots of friendly helpful people here to get advice and support. Like you I started guitar at age 11 and stopped several times in my life for different reasons and started again mid 2024.
I found JG and went back to basics and closely followed JGs grade 1 to 3 which I would highly recommend after having tried many others along the way, JG for me offers the right balance of songs, technique, theory and practice which gradually builds. I went onto Blues Immersion(BLIM) course which is challenging but great fun and a level step up.
Enjoy having fun with your guitar.

Welcome to the community. Hang in there during the first bit of time, it does get better and you have an amazing reward of being able to play songs just like you see other guitar players doing.
What worked for me as a beginner was focusing on songs. Songs songs songs. Play for 15 minutes a day, every day, make it part of your lifestyle. Find what makes it fun for you, that will keep you coming back. For me that was Songs.

Keep the guitar on a stand… it will inspire you to play more often & also when you only have a few minutes… I pick mine up & play while the coffee is brewing!!!
Make sure to always have FUN!!! Again, the more fun you’re having, the more you’ll play - which translates to getting better faster - which makes it more FUN!!!

Hi Laura, welcome to the community. Give yourself time to get calluses on your fretting hand and the chords will get easier. Take time with each module and find an appropriate song for each module that you find fun to play. Those are the main tips - have fun and be patient
