Hi from Lukas, currently in Iceland

Hi Folks,

I would like to introduce myself. I am 27, this year in May I picked up guitar for the first time in my life. I always loved music, it makes me move, enjoy life, but I always had doubt that I can learn such skill or even be able to create something. My step father inspired me that with consistent effort you can learn something as beautiful as music.

I came to Justin Guitar for more “practical” skill development. I am currently finishing grade 1, last month I spent only consolidating my basic skills. For music theory I am studying Absolutely understand guitar, love it.

Reason for introducing myself is to ask question. I would love to be able to play something with my step father, he plays Cajón for many years now. In a few weeks I will visit my parents for 1 month before moving to the other side of planet for some time. Can anybody give me some tips for either songs to play along or what to practice in order to be able to play with my step father?

(For clarification I am learning to play electric guitar)

Thank you for reading through
I wish you all beautiful day

Hi lukas,
I don’t know what would be good for you to play other than I think Justin has a song (or several songs) that you can learn to play that is lesson proper for your skill level. The songs are presented at the end of the lessons.
That may be a good place to look for you to find something that you can work with?

Have fun in your new adventure into playing guitar. It’s a real worthwhile pursuit.

Hi Lukas, welcome. There’s got to be a boatload of Cajon music out there online. I personally love Cajon music. I’m sure you’ll find plenty. Enjoy the amazing guitar journey you’re now on. Post videos of you playing for great feedback too.

Hi Lukas

Welcome to the community

For playing along with the cahon, I suggest you practice any song along with either a metronome, an app or a backing track. I have a Boss DR-01S which has an option to make the sound a cajone would make. You don’t really need such a device, just getting used to playing along to a beat will be great practice.

Hello Lukas & Welcome!!!
Do you know what kind or style of music your stepfather plays on his cajon? That would help us to suggest a song that you two could play together!
Good luck with your guitar journey!!!
Have lots of fun playing!!!

Welcome to the community Lukas! You could ask your stepfather to recommend a cajón song or 2 that you could practice.

Hello, thank you for answering. He really likes country music. He plays with friends on barbecues and small gatherings for fun. I dont really understand this genre so I am kinda short haha.

Country!

Are You Sure Hank Done it This Way - Waylon Jennings (simplified) A & D chords.

Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus D & E chords.

Horse With No Name - America Em & D6 - one of the Easiest guitar songs ever written & Justin has a video lesson… great groove & fun - even if it’s not a Country song….

Good luck Lukas!!!

Hi Lukas, if you want some additional song ideas from the country genre, you can go to the Song Lessons website page and use the “Genre” menu choice on the lower left side of the page and filter by difficulty for Grade 1 songs, to find more easy country songs like I Walk the Line, Jolene, Boy’s Round Here and Jambalaya.

Is it really only 10% that stick with guitar after a year?

It was the title of a post in this section, and I really liked it.
