Hi from Mat in Austria

Hello, I’m Mat from Austria,

With my 6-month anniversary of buying my first guitar (Harley Benton TE-62DB CAR), I thought I’d say hello here as well.
Why it took me 35 years to get started is still a mystery to me. But I always loved listening to music, and I wanted to understand how it comes together for a long time.

So here I am now, practising almost every day with Justin’s App and slowly going through practical music theory as well. Usually, I get back to theory when I feel like practice has given me enough real experience to tie in the theory. By now, I’m at module 10 for learning to play and module 3 for theory, and pretty happy with my progress.

Now I can practice some of the songs I loved to listen to for a long time like “Wish you were here”, “I need my girl” and “Snuff”. Which also led me to start singing along too. Until now, I never expected to use my voice. It is not accurate or pretty (imho), but like playing guitar, my voice is also getting better. Hopefully, I can eventually get to learn “Silver Joy” by Damien Jurado, which is another song I love.

With this, my rambling is concluded, and I want to say “Thank you” to Justin and the people in here. I’m more of a silent reader, but the information in here and the courses have helped me along a lot already. This community will probably also help me with the growing desire to get to the optimum number of guitars, too. People in here know the formula for it already.

Sounds like your making great progress , maybe you should consider Blues Immersion 4, I can recommend it having just started BLIM3, but you would need to like or enjoy the blues😀

Welcome to the community forum Mat. So you’re playing a few songs, singing along and have a bad case of Gear Acquisition Syndrome after only six months learning? I would say you are a Star :glowing_star: Student!

I was looking at BLIM already. When it comes to music, I’m all over the place, and blues is something I do like as well. Getting the basics right is currently my goal. What comes next, we will see.

Hi Mat, welcome to the community forum.

Excellent approach. I too considered BLIM, but figured I will get much more out of the course when my fundamentals are stronger.

Hello Mat.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard
