Hi from South Korea!

What’s up, gang. I’m in my 30s and consider myself more of a bass player than a guitarist, but I’ve got two electrics sitting around and there’s lots of transferable skills between the two, so here I am.

I play a MIM Stratocaster that I’ve had for about 18 years, one of the few possessions to stay with me that long. I’ve also got a MIJ Jazzmaster, but I think I prefer that for ‘lead guitar’ and the lower-action Strat for chord work, which is most of what Justin’s beginner stuff seems to cover.

There’s not a lot of music I don’t like but I’m particularly partial to a good bit of surf rock. Other than that, I really like my movies, old RPGs, nerd stuff in general!

A quick question as I’m new around here - I just got the end of Grade 1 and Justin suggests uploading a YouTube video to get feedback. Where around here on the forum would you kind folk suggest doing that?

Welcome to the forum @ShrunkenShrine
There are 2 places where you can upload videos or sound tracks
If you would like to keep get feed back and track of your progress with easy access you can start a Learning Log where all your videos will be in 1 spot Learning Logs - JustinGuitar Community
Check out some of the other members’ Learning Log to get a feel for it. it will be your personal thread but others can comment or help you out when needed.

If you just want to up load videos of your playing for others to view and make comments but don’t need to keep track of them you can post them in the AVOYP section Community Recordings - JustinGuitar Community

in the AVOYP section pick a category that your video will fit into and upload it there.
There is a rule that you can only have one thread per month but you can upload as many videos as you’d like into that thread each month.

Welcome! I hope you enjoy it here. Everyone is really helpful. The wife and I are always watching Korean movies and TV shows on Netflix. Don’t get me started on Kpop and my daughter.

Hi Freewheelin, good to hear! Yeah, modern Korean media is massive with younger people internationally right now. Very highly-produced stuff.

Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community.

Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.

Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard

Funny side note - I spent many years doing Korean martial arts (and others) and met my wife there. One of my best friend’s at the time is from Busan. He taught me the first thing you learn in any language. All the swear words! lol.
