I am a 52 year old newbie and March 4th,2025 was my Day-0 with the guitar and Justin’s lessons. I tried guitar some 30 years back and I gave up very quickly as nothing made sense to me, and all these years I thought that I don’t have the talent for it, and maybe I liked the idea of playing a guitar. Last week a colleague of mine, sensing some muted spark in me was generous enough to lend me a guitar and an amp, and introduced me to Justin Guitar. I just completed Beginner Module 1 and I am blown away at how fantastic and inspiring the lessons are. Justin truly knows how to teach guitar… In a short span of 1 week i can now play and transition between A & D chords (almost smoothly) and even composed a small piece of song myself… Every day i am now anticipating when i will get home to practice more.
A part of me is also sad that I missed 30 years thinking that I may not have the talent for it, whereas I had very poor guidance.
A big THANK YOU to my colleague who encouraged me and introduced me to Justin, and I am sure i will be able to somewhat make up for the lost time.
Hi Zazzar,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
What if I hadn’t stopped 30+ years ago too… but then, there was no internet and I didn’t have the ability/brain to figure it all out on my own. Time cannot be made up … Now everything is fine and everything is coming together and i am so happy with that …
Enjoy this time because in the beginning you make the biggest and most fun steps…sometimes I had 1 or more Aha moments every day for a week long
Greetings,Rogier
Hi Zarrar from another German! Welcome to the community, which is a real great and supportive place.
Use the time ahead and don’t look back, it doesn’t help anyway .
Wish you lots of fun and perseverance!
Hi Zarrar, another 50+ German here, welcome to the community. Congrats on completing your first module. I am pleased with your enthusiasm and wish you many wonderful moments with the guitar.
Cheers Withold
Isn’t this a great feeling? Soon you will have to write a song about not being afraid to jump into the water. Good luck becoming a guitar player! You have found the perfect place to do that.
Wilkommen Zarrar
You should share your song as well as your enthusiasm
Nowadays it’s only Oh,oh’s
It’s been a while since I felt my back laughing…so glad I didn’t just drink something…
Welcome to the forum Zazzar
welcome
Nice to meet you Zazzar, cheers Hec
Welcome to the community. It’s a great place to interact with the other members of the community - people are so helpful on this forum. I enjoyed reading your post and your enthusiasm for Justin’s courses. It reminded me of when I picked up a guitar a year and 9 months ago and after a few lessons with Justin could play a few chords. I remember the feeling of elation of being able to do something I didn’t think I would be able to do.
Have fun with your guitar journey Zarrar and keep us posted on your progress !
Hello Zarrar,
a warm welcome to the forum from another 52 year old German
You’ve found the perfect place for your guitar journey, and it is great that you are making good progress already.
Yes, the courses and song tutorials are very motivating and well structured.
I’ve started about 1.5 years ago (currently in Grade 3) and still can’t believe how much fun I have with my guitar every day
Enjoy your musical journey and have lots of fun and success
Liebe Grüße
Gunhild
Hi ZarrarY,
Welcome to the community. I am writing and playing from Zurich. I started 3.5 months ago, and I also tried to play 30 years ago when I was 18. Its crazy to see how easy it is to access information and how much easier it is to learn today.
Enjoy your journey!
Liebe Grüsse,
Pedro
Welcome to the community Zazzar!
Hi Zarrar, welcome to the community forum. I hope you have lots of fun learning songs that you love.
Hey, that’s awesome, echoes my experience at the age of 53. Apparently I was conceived in Germany although I have no recollection of that life changing event.
Look forward to hearing more from you. Stick with it, you’ll be amazed at what you’ll be able to do so quickly
Hello Zarrar. You’ve made a start and are now in a great Community of fellow learners.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Hi Richard,
Thank you for reaching out. The encouraging response i have gotten from the community is very reassuring that I am in the right community at the right time.
I am really happy to see that I am not alone and that there are many in my situation and that learning guitar (and getting good at it) at my age is very much possible. Its my week 2, and i am practicing regularly and every day I see a small improvement.
Looking forward to interesting interactions here in the community.
Best regards
Zarrar
Hello Zarrar & Welcome!!!
I have 2 bits of advice for total beginners…
1- If you haven’t already, get a stand or wall hanger for your guitar. Since I’m assuming that you’re playing electric, keep it plugged into your amp. That way you can play or practice when you only have a few minutes to spare… I like to practice scales while the coffee’s brewing!
2- Keep it FUN!!! It’s called ‘Playing’ guitar for a reason!!! If it starts to feel like a chore, you’ll play less. On the other hand, if it’s lots of fun, you pick up the guitar more often. The more you pick it up, the better you get which equates to more fun and then you get even better……
Good luck with your musical Journey!!!
