I’m 18 from the UK and I got my first guitar last week! Been practicing everyday then got recommended by a friend to check out here to help me learn efficiently. So far I’ve only really learned riffs from songs I really like because I was just so excited to play something myself and not just watch it in a video
I’ve loved guitar soooo much since I was a kid and always wanted to learn it. I remember in primary school I got so annoyed because I got chosen to learn violin, and I’d just watch all the kids who got picked for guitar with jealousy lol. Grew up always admiring it and loving its sound, so finally decided to save and just get one because better sooner than later!!
My final push that made me decide it’s time to actually learn guitar was listening to The Last of Us soundtrack composed and played by the very talented Gustavo Santaolalla, I can only dream to be as talented as him one day. Outside of guitar, I love writing, reading, gaming and gym. I’m also pretty extroverted and love meeting new people
Welcome! You are passionate about learning guitar and that’s awesome. Hold onto that and there’s really no limit to how far you’ll go with your playing.
Welcome to the community. Oh how I wish I had picked up the guitar when I was only 18. Learning to play has been a wonderful experience for me. Such a great reward.
Haha. The music I’m playing on guitar is much different to what I was listening to at the tender age of 18. My last big trip (65,000+ kms towing caravan around Australia) I got a $50 tip from someone who liked my playing at the camp kitchen in a caravan park, biggest tip I’ve ever got so that’s a tour with broken records! Thanks for the laugh
Welcome Amaan! You’ve found a good place to learn. Start at the beginning of the lessons, stick with the curriculum, keep practicing, learn songs, and you’re on your way!
Yeah I definitely will. I prefer the sound of fingerpicking, so all the riffs I’ve learned independently so far have helped me develop that skill, they also taught me how to do a (very far from perfect) hammer-on as one of the riffs included it, also had a pull-off but I couldn’t manage that at all . I started the modules yesterday and that’s been helping me cover chords, transitions and strumming, definitely been easier to pick up on them since I was already building basic finger strength and dexterity in my independent week that I already did
Welcome, mate! I wish I had started playing guitar when I was 18, but hey, it’s never too late. It’s not an easy instrument, especially when you’re just starting to learn. Don’t let your motivation get down when something gets difficult. Just keep practicing, and you’ll get better. Good luck!
