Hi I'm Christopher from Southern California

Hey everyone! I started with Justin’s beginner courses a few months back and I’m just about to cross over into Beginner Grade 2. I’m also using another platform for vocal lessons and have been writing alot of lyric over the past 6 months or so. It’s always been a dream of mine to be able to play the guitar and sing and my goal in the future is to perform on stage. At 55, I got a late start but I’m putting the work in every day and starting to see (and hear) my progress. The teaching style has been great and after messing around with other platforms and apps, I’m all in on Justin Guitar for the long haul. I use the app too and it’s been a great addition, especially the chord changes for me. I love learning and practicing and have really been enjoying the journey so far. Excited to now drop in and become a member of the community!

Hello Chris & Welcome!!!
Congratulations to you for finding Justin Guitar & for finishing Grade 1!!!
Grade 2 will be introducing a lot of new material, try not to rush through… take time to internalize & absorb each lesson. I went through Grade 2 as fast as I could because I was so excited. Then ended up repeating most of the lessons later!!!
Having the App helps too! The guitar karaoke aspect is fun & useful! I like to watch the lessons in the app at times when I don’t have my guitar (like in a doctor’s waiting room for example) & then do the corresponding lessons on the web site when I have my guitar. Seems to help a bit!
Most importantly, always keep it fun!!! The more fun you’re having, the more you play, the better you get & the more fun it is!!!
Also, this Community is a great resource for when you have questions or issues!
Good luck!!!

Hi Christopher, welcome to the community. I wish you the best in reaching your goals of singing and playing the guitar. You can do that with help from Justin’s lessons. I find that the Song Lessons on the website are great for learning to play and sing. Justin shows how to play with simple chords and strums and then how to make the song more interesting as an accompaniment for your voice. You can filter the songs by grade, by chords or by genre.

Hi Christopher

Welcome to the forum. Nice to hear that there’s another singer/guitar player joining the community.

I would be interested to know which vocal course you are following, and whether you recommend it, as I was thinking of starting to do some voice training.

Best, Ian

Hello Christopher.

Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. There a whole host of golden oldies over in the dog house.
Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.

Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard

Hi, thanks! I’m using Singing Carrots 9singingcarrots.com). I’ve been on it for just under 3 months and really love it! Great courses, and a pretty incredible AI vocal coach tool. All of your progress is tracked with each session and you can see how your progressing (my range and pitch accuracy has gone way up just in a few months). Highly recommend.

Nice! Thanks Richard. I’ll most likely take advantage of the 1-on-1 lessons at some point in the near future (at least once I complete all of the beginner courses before moving ninto the advanced).

Hey Ian, thanks I’m psyched to be here! Yeah so I use Singing Carrots. Lots of great lessons and some pretty amazing pitch training tools and their relatively new AI vocal coach is spot on. Everything is tracked so you can see your progress in vocal range and pitch accuracy over time. I’ve developed my voice tons since starting just a few months ago. My pitch accuracy went from about 30% to a steady 90+ percent and my rang has extended as well. I use the course almost daily for about an hour, and pair it with the Better Voice SOVT training tool for 15 minute warmups which has done wonders for my breath control, pitch accuracy and just overal strengthening my vocal chords.
