Honky Tony Women - A work in progress!

So this is still very rough and ready and I’m really just learning it, but I thought I’d post it up as I have the outline of the song and not every recording needs to be super polished right

Just stood up the iphone on a chair and hit record when I was practicing.

I’m playing in standard tuning because I’m too stubborn / lazy to go to open G, which makes some of this a bit harder than it needs to be. I’m using an interesting D shaped G power chord on the middle 4 strings with a 5 in the bass - it’s a bit of a handful, but seems to get the job done.

I’ll keep chipping away at it …

Great groove going on there Paul. :sign_of_the_horns:t2::guitar: Truly embracing your inner Keith Richards.

Sounding great - it’s not far off for a WIP Paul! I didn’t know it was possible to get so far in standard tuning, but… exhibit A

Sounding good Paul. Thanks for sharing.
You have enough guitars to tune one in Open G?

Good work Paul, I’m always ready for some Stones.

Man, osmosis at work, was just thinking about this in Open G this morning ! Scary

Thanks Joe - It’s a fun song to play

Cheers Phil - It’s never going to be that accurate - going for the vibe. I think Justin holds a special place in his heart for the Stones, so I imagine a little bit of him would die to hear it in standard

Thanks Mal, yes I have enough guitars (that came out wrong :scream:) but having spent so long working on the fretboard and intervals I feel like a fish out of water in alternate tunings these days. I used to play a lot of alt tunings when I was doing a lot of acoustic fingerstyle, but that’s a lifetime ago!

Thanks James! Still a long way to go to get it smooth and there’s a bunch of other licks and fills I want to add - one step at a time!

Cheers Toby - It’s a great song! Never appreciated the Stones until later in life, but catching up now

Cheers Jeff, fun tune to play, but of a struggle to sing over the syncopation though!

This sounds already very good Paul, I can’t imagine how it will be when “polished”, as you say. Your singing much suits this style.

Oh man, I was back in high school, sneaking a doobie, and getting all sweaty on the dance floor. You nailed the feel!

Nicely done!

Looks tricky to play that so well done, just the very slightly pauses at points were noticeable but nothing else

Thanks Silvia, there are some timing issues and some more layers I want to add, but I thought it might be fun to post in it’s current state. There’s some good practice routines in this song for me!

Cheers Bruce - it’s great how music does that right!?

Thanks! I make it look harder than it should be  Playing in standard brings a few problems where open G would let me use open strings. You are right it’s not as smooth as it should be, but I’ll get there. Thought it would be fun to post the work in progress.

Cheers Hec! I love playing it, it’s a great tune
