sairfingers, Alexa or Siri or whatever they put on the tv we got was not turned on purposely by us. In fact, we said no when it asked. That’s not to say they did it anyway. I’ve heard of Alexa speaking on its own in the night time hours. I’ve also heard of Alexa sending emails middle of the night to people’s friends that they did not want them to see. Scary stuff. Hi tech is there for the rich and powerful, not to get on a huge rant. They use it to increase profits, and we’re all guinea pigs when new products come out on the market. They release them I believe prematurely, in fear someone else might beat them to it, and then we send in feedback, in the form of complaints or when we call a troubleshooter for assistance. They make a note of it and fix it. Hopefully. I’ve turned off everything I can think of on my computer to block ads and such, but I still get an ad instantly whenever I look up something related to that product. On occasion I’ve looked for something I don’t remotely need nor want, and poof, I get an ad for it. Many of them. It’s a scary, crazy world we live in. Thank God for the guitar and music.
Can you tie this discussion into playing or learning guitar some way, somehow? I’m not a fan of provocative AI discussions that have nothing to do with music. AI brings enough shock, awe and angst (and not always well reasoned) in a musical context to fill up all of the guitar forums. This particular topic dances around politics with a wink, a nod, and with a measured dose of fear mongering (rightfully or wrongfully).
I don’t see why ![]()
There are many threads/discussions, usually in the appropriate ‘just chatting’ area, which have nothing to do with guitar or indeed music. By and large, they are a way of sharing more of who we are and what makes us tick- cats & dogs, pics of where we live, gardens and what grows in them, (motor)bikes, cars, the list goes on…
One problem with AI, is that it is becoming ubiquitous, affecting every aspect of our lives (including music and how we relate to it).
Some say Everything is political , and there is truth in that, but I believe the Community’s approach of avoiding Religion and Politics is a practical one, and indeed encourages folk from around the world to engage with others who they normally might avoid. It’s an extension of how learning guitar/music can shine the light on the many things we have in common, as opposed to our small, but strongly felt differences.
The reason we have a new AI section is because it was ‘taking over’ so many other threads.
It’s a separate place for those who want to discuss AI related topics, so others don’t have to read it, unless they want to (a ‘Community trash can’?)
You’re a smart guy, Clint ![]()
You knew by the title/location of this post that this was unlikely to be music related, and that discussion of global corporations and how they affect our daily lives would probably touch upon how we as individuals and society (politics) deal with that.
I’m definitely guilty of ‘dancing around’ the politics topic (bringing Irish govt. policy into it), and don’t feel good about that ![]()
Sorry if I transgressed.
One of the strengths of this Community is that we are by and large ‘self-regulating’, (though I admit to childishly wondering how I might drag our shiny new moderator into this
)

…Thank you Brain…‘dancing around’ ?? may Mother Earth protect us if you take a deep dive into it ![]()

and following Clint’s suggestion, I’ll bring this topic back around to music, quoting Megadeth, from ‘Peace sells but who’s buying’
"What do you mean I ‘don’t support your system?’
I go to court when I have to!"
(… and I’ll have to respond here, as I don’t want to clog up the Arpeggiator with ‘chit chat’- That ‘Directive’ sailed clean over my head/under my radar ![]()
Maybe just as well I don’t follow many lesson-related topics, eh?

OK, so no chance of tying it to music. Just because it doesn’t have to tie into music doesn’t mean I can’t point out that doesn’t and request that it should. So, how about a request for some balance? How useful is AI, specifically FB’s?
