Thank you! I did not see this checklist. I feel like I have a good feel for strumming the old faithful.
I did just read in another post about the songs showing a strumming pattern recommended for each song. I never noticed it being there! I was also wondering if I should only be strumming when the chord comes up to change. That’s how I found it.
So tonight I will work more on the strumming with the songs. Just memorizing the songs without the tabs is tough. My memory sucks lol
Your mileage may vary; when I was finishing Grade 1 myself I had a lot of self questioning on whether to move on or stay longer and reinforce, and what finally decided it for me was posting my very first AVOYP (without the V part on that one) and letting the community comment on it.
The reception was positive and I was encouraged to move on, which I did
I had, of course, checked all items on the “How to Pass Grade 1” checklist that @GrumpyMac referred to above. With perhaps the only exception being the “can play at a party anytime” - since I could not sing and play at the same time (still can’t, btw), you’d never see me volunteering at a party. But I did have back then a Youtube playlist with around 10-15 songs that I could play along from beginning to end from memory and that was good enough for me on that count.
Hi, I am on the app too and stumbled in the same way. I mean, i see the upper right corner option → strumming; but I only see down strum option on all songs and there is no option to change it with some other option. What do I miss?
One of the criteria for when to move on from module 1 is “You can change between A and D at least 30 times a minute.”
I originally took this to mean that going from A to D to A to D would count as 2 (A to D) changes. However, now I am wondering if I misinterpreted it, and A to D to A to D should actually count as 3 changes (between A and D).
Is there a definitive answer to this in any of the course material?
I just came across your comment from Feb 2022 recommending to "watch at least one of the Nitsuj videos. “Here, you will see and hear your teacher as beginner, struggling, fumbling and not being perfect but making a judgement call as to whether it is enough to progress with”. This was wonderful advice. Until I saw the video,https://www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/nitsuj-module-7-practice-10-nj-710, I had heard that Justin taught himself how to play, left handed but I had no idea what a wonderful tool he provided by recording himself so we could see how he played during his left handed journey. Watching him play, and then decide if he was good enough to move to Grade 2 was hugely important to me. Thank you for suggesting this and as I progress, I will definitely check my progress against his. Thank you for mentioning this years ago!
