How To Play The E Chord

I’ve started experiencing wrist pain once I added in E and started playing for longer periods of time. I have been told my thumb position is wrong, and I am working on it, but I guess I have been practicing with it way too high this entire time and I feel discouraged. I feel like I’m starting all over again trying to get the chords to ring out in this new position, and I still feel like my thumb is too high or awkwardly positioned half the time. Sorry, I am not sure where to post this but I could use some help / suggestions with this. I am having a hard time with the adjustment.
