Is there a Post or area on the site where Justin goes over how the Modules and lessons should be used. It looks like maybe you are suppose to go through all the lessons in a module and then Practice that whole module and not work through each lesson one at a time. Can anyone clears this up?
In the early modules, I would listen the the whole lesson set in a module and then set my practice up around that. I’d move on when comfortable.
Later, the modules can be a bit larger and you’ll have left-over skills to practice from older modules. Things that are harder for you to master due to a number of reasons. When this started to happen, I would listen to as many lessons as I could add to my practice routine. As I gained enough proficiency to drop something off practice, I would listen to the next lesson.
Doing it this way, I blurred the line between modules a bit, so sometimes I’d hold off on adding a lesson if the next module seemed like several lessons went together. I’d wait until I had enough room in practice time to accommodate the group I wanted to practice concurrently.
The approach I have always taken is to go lessn by lesson. At the end of every lesson there will be a guide on what/how to practice, right from that first lesson to learn the D chord.
I find practice to be cummulative and iterative. What I mean is that when you move to lesson 2, you will continue to practice the D chord as you begin to learn the A chord.
An implication of this is that you don’t need to have the D chord ‘perfect’ before adding the A chord.
The next lesson helps with changing between the chords.
So maybe you go quickly through the first 3 lessons and then spend some time consolidating. And starting to learn some songs that use just A & D chords.
I think this pattern applies throughout. Learn the material, practice to get it under the fingers, while integrating it with other material in your practice routine. And at a point in time you may be comfortable to drop say practice on A & D chords but will continue to play them in the songs.
And just follow the guidelines Justin gives in the videos and descriptions. I am referring to the lessons on the website, not on the App. personally I think the App is primarily for song practice, especially in the early days. It has learning material but I think the website is more comprehensive.
I took Justins courses back before the new rework of the Lessons and Website, I thought there might be something new to the Learning practice structure.
Flipping through the lesson so much if mixed up compared to before and not sure where to pick back up. I might just have to go back to the beginning and speed through it and see what is new, and that will be a lot of videos.
I finished
The reworked Grades 1 & 2 equate to the old beginners course but with added material. So yes to ensure you have not missed any new lesson go back to the start. You can review what you have already learnt while adding new techniques along the way.
When Justin finally completed Grade 3, i went back and reviewed all of the beginner Grades despite completing the old BC and IM years earlier.
As you suggest and as supported by @TheMadman_tobyjenner I think starting from the first lesson and consider it a revision. You can power through at pace as you revise and slow up when you pickup some of the new material Justin added.
