I am not a bot!

Is anyone else having problems playing videos?
I am in the habit of leaving tabs open with the song I am trying to learn so I can quickly jump to the bit I need help with. I’ve noticed that I am now frequently asked to log in to play the video, even when I am actually logged in… it’s making it very frustrating to use the web site as I seem to have to close all tabs to get things going again… is this expected? Using an iPad, with safari browser… thanks

Hi David, do you have ā€˜delete cookies/history’ turned on every day ?.. because the few times I delete history/cookies and such, I am logged out everywhere… I always have at least 10+ tabs open…for the same reason,
Greetings,Rogier

Hello David.
Yeah, I’m occasionally getting this problem as well. I’m on Safari and iPhone.
I can’t select the message to rectify either!

Maybe I AM a bot!! :joy::joy:

I get this error randomly too. Per other forums it’s a change YT made to keep people from downloading audio from videos, or from generating ā€œfake clicksā€ through bots.

There’s speculation that it’s triggered by use of VPNs but I don’t have one.

I’ve not yet found a pattern. I can get the error even if I’m logged into JG and Google and YT. It could happen with tabs open a few hours or a few days. I don’t delete history each night.

What are VPN’s?

I had that problem too a lot lately. I finally did some searching on the web and found that closing extra tabs or windows running YouTube and clearing my YouTube history seemed to do the trick, since this is a YouTube issue. It is still a recurring annoyance.

It’s a virtual private network, software that encrypts your data traffic and hides your actual IP address.

Thanks everyone… seems like its a common problem then, and something I just have to deal with. It’s just a little frustrating and seems to have suddenly started from nowhere… oh well, the help in the videos is definitely worth a little frustration…

I haven’t installed anything like that but it might be something in Safari.

David, yeah it seemed to start very recently.

My iPad uses something called ā€œPrivate Relayā€ (can be found in the settings) which is a bit VPN-like in that it does some stuff to prevent you being tracked. It doesn’t cause me any problems on this site and I wouldn’t recommend turning it off (if you do have a device that uses it). The only website that I’ve found that refused to work with it on was the National Lottery because private relay disguises the location of your device

I’ve had similar issues on the iPad. Switching off VPN helped. Also found if you click on the bottom left off the video (something like ā€œplay in YouTubeā€ ) rather than the play button in the middle of the video this avoids the login message

I had it happen again ( are you a bot?) this morning in Safari on my iPad when trying to watch a song lesson, so I checked again to see what fixed the problem for me. I closed out all the tabs and windows in Safari, but that didn’t help. Then I logged into YouTube and restarted the Justin Guitar website session, but that didn’t help. Finally I cleared the Watch History in YouTube and that fixed the problem for me.

I am updating my guitar binder and going through all the lessons and updating my notes. All the sudden this evening I started to get this message as well and I’m having a hard time getting around it. Reading this thread it sounds like a YouTube issue, but man is it frustrating. I am running Safari on my MacBook Pro.

It seems everyone with this problem is use an ipad/mac and safari. So I don’t think it’s a youtube problem. I’m using neither and have no problems on tablet, laptop or pc

According to some sources, it would be solved by disabling ā€œprevent cross site trackingā€ in Safari (and maybe other browsers) and/or enabling YouTube notifications and pop ups. If that’s the case, it’s a case of YouTube not liking Apple’s (and maybe other companies) privacy measures. Which I do happen to like.

I think you’re right if the issue is limited to Apple devices. And yes while it’s a tad inconvenient, I’m all in favour of it. If I choose to give up my data that’s one thing but when companies are using underhanded methods to track me without my knowledge that’s very different. It should be completely illegal, no opt-in/out, illegal full stop.
The only other place where this extra layer of security has caused me an issue was trying to get on to the U.K. national lottery website.
