I’ve been considering an upgrade for some time (my first mention in my LL was in April 2023!) and I finally sprung for it this month. My new Taylor 722ce arrived today, after a long morning of waiting for UPS
I’ve had my eye on this series for a while purely because I think koa is super pretty, but I wasn’t going to buy based on that alone. I wasn’t able to try this model out when I visited Taylor’s factory visitor center, but between trying on the GA vs. GC for size, and hearing several of their different tonewood combinations (both LH models I could play myself, an employee demoing some RH models for me, and me playing very stilted Em, Am and G chords upside down on RH guitars), I took the plunge and ordered it. Just in time, too, since I prefer the understated matte finish and it looks like Taylor just switched to a gloss finish and marked up the price.
I’ve only gotten to play a few minutes since it’s a busy day/weekend, but she feels (and looks) SO SMALL compared to my Yamaha, and sounds lovely so far. The smaller size feels very comfortable so far, and I can’t get over how pretty she is! By my accounts, I’ve practiced for a bit over 300 hours total in the past 2+ years, excited for many more hours with this beauty
Congratulations, that’s one stunning guitar!
I’ve tried a Taylor once and it was the best acoustic guitar I’ve played. Hearing just one chord was enough. Enjoy playing yours.
That’s one gorgeous guitar. My wife has an all-koa ukulele and I can agree that koa, in addition to being beautiful to look at, is fantastic as a tonewood.
I’m also a Taylor fan. I bought a 50th anniversary Mini GS rosewood/sitka spruce earlier this year and it also sounds great, especially for as small as it is. I have a hard time playing my old Yamaha anymore, even though it doesn’t sound bad at all.
That looks a lot like a guitar you would keep for a lifetime. I really dig the matching front and back of that guitar. Stunning really.
Congratulation and Happy NGD!
