Reddit got me here. The “killer feature” was the whole Nitsuj thing - a teacher basically relearning to understand how to teach newbies more effectively. WOW, this guy is willing to go lengths, I wanna be near him on my journey! I used the free trial of the app, then switched to the website. The app is very useful and all, but I didn’t see a great value for me personally. I find the website super handy if you’re practicing on an electric with the laptop audio going into the amp aux, and I love playing with recordings on YT.
I loved guitar music ever since I’ve heard The Black Keys at the age of 14. A crappy classical guitar with crazy high action given by parents didn’t spark the will to learn, just as failing miserably while trying to learn fingerstyle Shape Of My Heart as a first song (yeah…). Then at 23 I earned enogh to buy a decent electric guitar. I knew nothing about guitars, but one thing I was absoltely positive of is I needed a sunburst Telecaster, just like Dan’s from Black Keys. And there it was - a used Donner DJC-1000S first thing I saw in a guiar shop!)))
It took me 9 months to get to Module 11. I’m into blues rock, old blues, classic rock and all kinds of stuff. My goal is to be able to play songs by my favourite bands, particularly Black Keys, Strokes, Beatles
Strokes ![]()
Good to see you here Ihor.
Your story is similar to mine with that first guitar that had high action. Mine had that too. What a big obsical to overcome when your trying to learn to play. Glad ya got your favorite guitar and color w/low action so you have a good chance to learn to play.
I’m with ya on the website too. Granted I don’t do much with my telephone other than use it as a telephone. A telephone is not what I want to learn guitar on either. Justins web site is the cats meow though. That, I can follow and learn from. Sounds like your the same.
Your favorite bands at the end of your comment work for me too. At least the part about the Beatles. I’m a big Beatle fan too. So much so, about half of what I can play are Beatle songs. There’s much to like about them. They are my musical hero’s, no doubt about it.
Anyways, have fun here. Ask any questions ya want to help you learn here. Many folks are most willing to share the thoughts with all here.
Fwiw, while I don’t listen to much new music (I’m stuck on the Beatles). I got hip to some of your brothers and sisters from your homeland music. Man, they really kicked some azz on this tune. Granted, I’m a little partial to trombone as it was the instrument I grew up playing, along with guitar. Anyways, thought you might like to hear that if ya hadn’t yet. How they can make such great music in a war zone is beyond my comprehension. They get much praise from me.
Learn a lot here and most important, have ‘Fun’ on your guitar learning adventure!
Nice to meet you Ihor, and welcome to JG. Lots of friendly people here to get advice and support. My motto is post a video if you can to get feedback and build confidence, when you are up to it. A simple one die with a mobile phone is good enough.
Have fun and enjoy your guitar journey.![]()

By the way if you like Rock and slightly heavier stuff, and have not listened to them try TOOL, ‘Fear Inocullum’ album is a good place to start
Welcome to the forum. My first guitar was a sunburst tele too. I have it mounted on the wall in my bedroom and every morning when I see it, I want to play.

Hello Ihor - and your telecaster.

Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.
Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
