I'm Chuck

I’ve literally played about 60 years. I play blues almost exclusively, even some jazz/blues. Tunes like ‘Chitlins Con Carne’, ‘Work Song’, ‘Back at the Chicken Shack’, ‘Loan Me a Dime’ and ‘Moaning’. I play either a Yamaha Strat knockoff. I call it my Stratohama. By the way, Yamaha makes really good guitars for cheap. My other is an Ibanez hollow body ‘jazz’ guitar. But I’ve always thought that I was missing something. John Scofield said that he learned from figuring out how to play tunes, then playing them. That’s me. No formal training. So I am here to maybe fill in some of the gaps in my blue playing. Lastly, I became a blues man in 1969. I was listening to the Beatles and the Kinks until then. But in that year I heard B.B. King doing ‘The Thrill is Gone’ And then I heard The Allman
Bros. ‘At Fillmore East.’ That’s what spun my head around, it was hello blues and goodbye pop music.

Hi Chuck, welcome to JG, sounds like your an experience blues player. I’ve been messing around on guitars since ‘69 when I was 11. But like many stopped and started several times due to life commitments, After +20 year break just done the JG Blues Immersion course (BLIM) it’s hard but great and improved my playing, now trying to build on it, and re doing aspects,

There are lots of older guitarists on here and it’s a friendly and helpful community. You should post a video of you playing so we can hear some blues.:grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Welcome to the community Chuck.

What’s up Chuck?

Hi Chuck, welcome to the community.

Hi Chuck. Welcome to the community. Nice intro, I have a Yamaha strat too. I don’t think I will be able to pick it up now without thinking it:s a Stratohama.
Best wishes,

Alan

Hi Chuck! Welcome to the community!

Hi Chuck
Nice to meet you
Looking foward to hearing more from you :guitar: :sunflower:

Hi Chuck. Welcome to the community. I’m learning to play Melissa by the Allman Brothers. I’ve been a fan since the 70’s.

Hello Chuck.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. There a whole host of golden oldies over in the dog house.
Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.

Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard

Hello Chuck and welcome to our Community! Blues is one of Justin’s favourite genres so you’re going to find a lot of it over here!

This is so much valuable! I hope you’ll tell us more about the connection with the guitar you built through the years and share some of your music too!
