Hey can someone please help? Before I even get to anything outlined in this video it wants me to download the software but doesnât specify the name of such software or where it is. Itâs a minefield of stuff on the boss page and the only thing i can find relevant to my amp is the software download for my amp which Iâve done. I canât launch tone studio on my computer because it says I need to download the software. Thanks heaps
Which model do you have?
What type of PC? Windows or Mac?
Cheers,
Keith
FYI - I have the BOSS Katana 50 Gen 3 and the procedure to import patches is different than what Justin describes in this video. Must be due to changes in the âGen 3â model.
After clicking the âlibrarianâ button, there is a âdownloadâ symbol button on the right. Click that and a window opens with the option to âimportâ from either (what looks like) the amplifier, or (a sheet of paper symbol) file.
Click on that and my file explorer opened and I was able to find Justinâs .tsl patch that was downloaded.
From there the process is the same but you must also click the âeditorâ button to drag the patch over to the slots on the left.
I have katana gen 3. My problem with Justin patches is that all the effects are set to 0 (like knobs turned down), although other specific effects settings are imported. Therefore, i donât know what the knobs values should be. Could anyone helpâŚ? Thanks!
I donât understand your question.
When you send a patch from tone studio to the amp, it doesnât matter what the knobs on the amp panel are set to.
The settings from the downloaded patch override, whatever the knobs are set to. However, if the effect is enabled, the LED for that effect will come on, even if the knob is set to zero.
Thanks for your response. What i meant is virtual knob values. On the gui you see the whole virtual amp and for example the reverb knob is turned down to 0.
Iâm still not really following you. I suggest you post a screenshot of the patch you are having trouble with.
Also, what type of computer are you using? Because the mobile version has a different gui than the desktop version.
Also also⌠I have found the Katana Librarian app to be much better than the Boss app, at least on my iPad.
it looks like this:
So, reverb, fx, mod are all off and i donât know to what values i should set them up to get the intended sound
OK, I understand nowâŚI think!
Iâm using an iPad, which has a different app, but I am seeing something similar. The LEDs are showing that the effect is on, but the knobs are showing 0 / OFF.
I also found this super confusing, and suspect it is a bug in the software, or possibly the ampâs firmware (Iâm a rev behind on the firmware)
But I played around a bit, and noticed that the âEFFECT LEVELâ knob (bottom half of the screen) IS non-zero. In your example, itâs set to 53. This knob also gets updated when you turn the real knob on the ampâs panel.
So I think it is safe to assume that the amp settings are actually being set properlyâŚitâs just that the knobs on the top of the screen are not showing this properly. But you should experiment and confirm if you think Iâm right about this.
Hate to say it, but the quality of Bossâs software and documentation is really poor. Itâs a shame, because the amp itself seems pretty good.
Hey Tom,
Thanks again for your responses and help. Yes, youâre right, the effects are actually on after all. Itâs all a bit confusing, coz for other patches itâs often the case that the âknobsâ are active as well, but that depends on how exactly the patch is exported
