In 2025 we mourn the death & celebrate the life of

RIP Brian Wilson. When we were pre-teens in the mid-70s some of us neighborhood kids had a Dance Club. We collected beer bottle empties and bought a few records with the refund money. I don’t recall how we picked the artists but the only one I remember is The Beach Boys. So I’ve listened to Brian Wilson and company for quite a few years, although 10ish years after their start. Some great memories from that time.

Bit late to this, been busy but yeah Sly was a genius, not my usual genre but full of appreciation for his music.
Brian Wilson OMG - RIP Brian; Beach boys were on my favourites list for ages and I learned to play quite a few of their songs, this was one of my favourites!

As far as I can tell, The Beach Boys were never as popular here in Hungary as The Beatles or the Stones, for example, so they had a lower exposure here. Personally, I’ve only heard their Pet Sounds album which is pretty much when the group aspect of the group was de-emphasized, sort of.

Talking about Pet Sounds, I’ve read an interview with Paul McCartney where he said, ā€œI’ve often played Pet Sounds and cried. It’s that kind of an album for me.ā€ And he also mentioned how it influenced Sgt. Pepper. It’s strange and fascinating at the same time because Pet Sounds hasn’t (yet) had that effect on me. Sure, it’s intricately arranged, but it just hasn’t managed to really touch me yet. I’ll keep on trying, though.

Some time ago I was reading about their Smile project and came upon this work-in-progress which I think is pretty cool:

And the finished song:

That’s very sad. I bought their first album, Raintown in 1987. Still a great record.

So many good memories listening to the Beach Boys.
I forget the exact time but we were in California and had the top down and thought let’s get some music; the Beach Boys seemed apt. However many stores we looked in we could not find a single song to buy.
It was obviously the low point of there career, but come on California and the Beach Boys and one cannot buy a record?
It was still a good holiday.

I saw Deacon Blue at Carfest last year. Very sad news.

Well…he was just in time for his farewell concert… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
Considering his condition, he still went a long way , and leaves behind a beautiful musical legacy :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I will play an record tomorrow and remember the concerts where I saw him… although there are some blurs on my part…

RIP

Really sad Master of Reality was the 2nd album I purchased when I was 13, Ozzy voice and his presence did it for me along with the bands classic riffs.

Ozzy was a legend and will live on in our hearts.
