Hi Gordon,
Thanks so much for your input. I’ll have to check on the Rod Stewart’s song, really… If there’s any similarity it’s either a pure coincidence, or perhaps some parts for the chord progression were at some point ‘planted in my brain’ (Paul Simon, this time ) .
I posted a short explanation why we celebrate the 11th Nov. as our Independence Day in the “Veterans’ Day” topic started in the ‘Chatting’ section; I quote it below:

Veterans Day

Not veterans perhaps (even though veterans are honored on this day, too) but a National Independence Day here in Poland… On 11.11.1918, along with the end of WWI, my country regained independence after 134 years of partition imposed on Poland by force in the period of her weakness by three neighboring powers.
