Intermediate Course revamp / current status?

Hi everyone,

I’m a returning player who’s going back through the updated Beginner Course from the start. I’m taking things more slowly this time and really appreciating how refined it’s become.

I saw the note about the Intermediate Course being in the middle of a revamp and was wondering what the current status is. It looks like some parts (possibly Grade 4?) may already be updated, but I’m not sure what’s considered current versus still in progress.

Does anyone have the latest, or can direct me to where I can read about the status of the intermediate course updates?

I also had a related question about the overall direction of the course. In the later grades as it currently stands, there seems to be a fairly strong emphasis on the blues lead pathway, which from my understanding is geared primarily toward electric guitar (given the heavy use of bends). I’m playing exclusively acoustic right now and plan to stay focused there for the foreseeable future.

So I’m curious whether, as the Intermediate course continues to evolve:
• there will be more options for blues or solo studies that translate well to acoustic guitar, and/or
• whether the more electric-specific blues lead material will be separated out a bit, alongside other Intermediate coursework that’s broadly applicable to acoustic players as well

Thanks so much for all the work that’s gone into the recent updates. It really does feel like a great time to be coming back to the site!

Hi @alchemical, welcome back :slightly_smiling_face:

Good questions and glad to hear you’re enjoying the updates!

The Intermediate Course is still in a longer-term revamp. The reality is it got pushed back by other projects.

Some parts and lessons have been updated and added over time, but there isn’t a fully refreshed intermediate pathway yet. I can’t say yet what the revamp will include and when it will happen, but tone lessons are definitely on the list based on student feedback!

You may have heard Justin mention this already, but a Rock course is in the works. It’s still very early days but this is where most of Justin’s focus is right now. Something might land toward the end of the year, but there are no promises yet. He’s taking the time to make sure it’s really solid before releasing anything.

If you’re looking for acoustic friendly intermediate material right now, the Solo Blues course might be worth a look?

The first set is free to try and includes some of the most recent intermediate lessons Justin’s worked on: Try Solo Blues

Here if you got further questions!

Cheers,
Fanny

@alchemical The acoustic Solo Blues course is so much fun. It’s definitely a good extension to the current intermediate pathway.

I’m working on the solo blues acoustic this year and will subscribe to the rock course as soon as it releases a I love electric guitar too.

Thank you @FannyJustinGuitar for your transparent and comprehensive reply! Great to know it’s at least still on the agenda. Will we continue to have access to the classic Intermediate Foundation Modules (as listed on the site map) until the IM revamp comes out?

And thank you to @Richard_close2u for the original hand off, along with @math07 for bumping this thread and making the Solo Blues course recommendation too. It definitely caught my eye for something to look forward to after going back through the beginner course.

In the meantime, I have plenty of work and play ahead with solidifying my beginner foundations

Yes, you’ll still have access to the Intermediate Foundation Module! However the links on the lesson map will soon redirect to the most recent intermediate course Modules, so eventually you won’t be able them from that page!

Feel free to bookmark and access all Intermediate Foundation Modules from this page: Intermediate Classic Course
