Irish Traditional Music Student

I’m an student of Irish Traditional Music specialising in Tin Whistle and Uilleann pipes. We have access to weekly guitar lessons in college, but I want a bit of extra help and to be able to play a broader range of music. I want to be able to learn how to improvise in group sessions with acoustic guitar, and be able to sing while playing guitar solo. It’s been a long time since I played so I feel like I’m back at the beginning again, but I don’t mind. I have a brand new acoustic now and I’m excited to get started.

Welcome aboard, Joanna
We have a lovely, supportive community here and Justin’s teaching approach is fab.
If you have any clips of music you’ve been involved in, why not share in the AVOYP section?
Cheers, Brian

Welcome Joanna! Wow, actually studying Irish traditional music…and playing pipes! How lovely. One thing I admire about Irish music is how it has embraced a non-traditional instrument (guitar) as one of its own, and in doing so has probably broadened the audience. (Of course, I welcome being schooled if my understanding is inaccurate!) Hope to see you around the community.

Welcome Joanna

You are in the right place. Guitar is perfect for accompanying voice as you can get away with just a few chords but you could end up driving a session as a rhythm player which looks like great fun.

Welcome Joanna. I grew up listening to a lot of Irish traditional music. Nothing better than a good trad session in an Irish :shamrock: pub !
Enjoy your guitar journey .

Welcome, Joanna. I had to look up tin whistle. Now I want to find my recorder. So many instruments, so little time!
