Unofficial community opinion poll: Real or Fake?
Looks legit to me (albeit maybe with a bit of post-production sound editing) ![]()
Move over Tommy Emmanuel here comes the next generation! ![]()
So I’m pretty sure it isn’t AI - I don’t know of this guy, but I have friends (Thomas Leeb and Jon Gomm) who play this style and I’ve seen pretty amazing things from them live.
I don’t think he’s playing live in the video, but he performs live enough for this to be totally genuine.
The next generation starting in the 80s with Michael Hedges ![]()
I think the answer is in - Cameron Fernandez covered this a few weeks ago. It’s not AI according to him, but there are tricks in the recording.
When he was saying ‘here comes the most important part’ I was expecting him to burst into song ![]()
I suppose you could count his speech as ‘rapping’ (and the ‘song’ would only have been half as good without it
)
To quote him ‘unless he’s that good’ … well to be fair he might be. I’d like to hear from someone like Mike Dawes who knows the genre a little better. I do agree that it’s not live, and there are clearly effects being used, but other than that, I’m not (yet) convinced it’s fake.
There’s more, if you’re interested:
There are some very talented people around, he reminds me of The Showhawk Duo ,check them out, they have many amazing videos on YouTube
Doesn’t sound natural. The flipping of guitar percussion to drum sounds is obvoius, but he probably re-recorded things after his video or at least did quite a lot of corrections in post-production.
Those other guys I’ve seen playing like this are impressive also, but you can feel the human touch while here - at least me - I can’t.
Couldn’t even watch very far, because somethingh inside me didn’t want to.
I agree. It is elaborate and a bit interesting technically, but I would not call this music.
I question most things I see or hear these days as being genuine, such is the world we live in. He might be playing but he could be really good a miming and not be to play guitar at all. Next release a collaboration with Milli Vanilli?
Michael
Having watched the ‘performance’ I’m not concerned with it’s real or fake. To me, it’s not musical: it lacks heart and conviction and has all the appeal of the victorian freak shows.
Most of the members of Justin’s Community are better than this: the AVOYPs and Open Mics, way better!
Brian
There is this too, which was filmed by one of the audience at one of his live concerts.
So, no, I don’t think he’s a fake…
Are Queen fake? ABBA? Foo Fighters? Guns’n’Roses?
All of these artists (and pretty much every other artist since the 1960s) used editing and additional effects on their studio tracks and mimed on the videos that accompanied their tracks. So why are we suddenly holding Youtube musicians to a higher standard?
Cheers,
Keith
You’re right, but what I personally didn’t like is that he tries to make it look like a live performance, not like those music videos which include a story often and where it’s clear that the video just accompanies a standard multitrack and edited studio recording.
Cheers,
Keith
I hope that I am not obliged to watch all those videos above just because I made the statement that I disliked that guy’s video. ![]()
You wouldn’t like any of them. ![]()
Cheers,
Keith
But If I like the song or aritst, and some of those above might remind me of my younger days, then I might overlook stupid things they did there! ![]()
I didn’t follow the link, just wanted to dismiss the premiss that AI generated music is fake.
