Is possible to get the backing track of a song & remove guitar then put in a looper?

Hi Richard, just a continuation of my questions re the looper/pedal. Is possible to acquire the backing track of a commercially released song which has many instruments than just drums and bass. For instance “Waiting On A Friend” has drums, bass, piano, sax and guitar. I would like to get this backing track without guitar so I may play the guitar over top. Is this something I can purchase and install it in the pedal?

One option is the app called Moises (webpage Moises.ai) - There’s plenty of us use it round here to separate tracks and it works pretty well.

There are limits to the free version but I happily pay 4.99 each month because of how it helps me with my practice. There’s a web version, and iPhone version but in my opinion it really shines on iPad

You can get a range of licenced backing tracks from Karaoke Version. One of the nice things is you can create different versions of the same track, by including or excluding instruments.

Whether you can easily put them into your looper depends on what model it is. Some loopers allow you to upload backing tracks to a memory slot over USB.

Cheers,

Keith

I followed @mattswain’s suggestion and used the Moises app. I haven’t used it much up to now but it is very easy to import songs, then remove the guitar track or whatever track you want. I was surprised how well it works. So it seems to be a good tool that might be what you’re looking for.

Don’t know if you could then upload them to a looper.

FWIW if you are not a frequent recorder, I believe Moises is around £5 per month, Karaoke.uk downloads are usual £2.99 and as Keith @Majik said you can download different mixes or as I prefer multiple stems ie 1 per instrument, vocals and a click track. Or as above mute the tracks you don’t want in order to get a single file containing your preferred mix (eg drums, bass keys and vox only). Just use the Custom track option.

it depends what part of the Moises functionaility is important to someone. It is a 4.99 per month subscription, but you could subscribe for a month, do a whole load exporting of separated tracks and then cancel the subscription. If the subscription is done via the Apple App Store then cancellation is only ever one click away. Personally I get a lot of utlilty from Moises so I have an ongoing subscription

+1 for Moises. I pay ÂŁ5 per month. Easily the best money I spend in guitar world

Another for Moises, it’s what I always used when I was playing covers, well worth the subscription, and as already said you are only one click away from getting shut if you don’t need it any more.

another +1 for Moises. Two years running now I’ve snagged the Black Friday deal £17.50 for the full year (equivalent to about £1.50/month)

Thanks guys, very helpful info. I’ll check out your suggestions.

There is a website caled Lalal AI (https://www.lalal.ai/) where you can upload any song and strip out what you want, guitar, vocals etc. then download the finished product. Works great, I’ve used it many times to create jam tracks. You have to buy minutes to use it but it’s not expensive.
