Is there a guitar club for folks who want to learn Bluegrass Flat Picking…e.g. like Billy Strings, Tony Rice, Molly Tuttle, etc.
Hi Jim< Hec here and I am relevantly new here so I am not sure but somebody will let you know nice meeting you anyway cheers Hec
Hi jhjennis,
I am really interested in flat picking also.
Cheers,
Greg
Hey Jim, I suspect many around here would enjoy this as well. I’m not sure if there is an official way to request a club topic, but @larynejg or @Richard_close2u can probably steer you in the right direction.
I would be v keen to study some song lessons and technique lessons in this.
In the same way the learning the blues is the basis for so much of modern popular music, bluegrass is such a valuable transferable skill
Well in all the years I have been here I have never come across any Bluegrass lessons but thought I’d better check my decade plus gut instinct !
A quick search
So I’d guess with no actual lessons, I suspect a JustinGuitar Club would be a non starter.
I somehow don’t think JS has skin in this particular game.
But given their history and longevity in things JGC I’ll tag Mr C @Richard_close2u and Rick @stitch - as if I may have missed something, these would be the guys I’d reach out to !
There isn’t a power in the universe strong enough to get me to play like Billy Strings or Molly Tuttle!
I do like playing bluegrass. Sometimes the strumming in some songs is faster than I can handle without the pick getting hung up in the strings, but I can do the little solo fills between verses using major pentatonic and it sounds great.
Can you recommend some tutors to the OP ?
I’ve never seen Justin play/teach anything close to bluegrass. He barely scratches the surface of country. Not something I’ve ever really studied either so can’t recommend anyone.
No, I just listen to bluegrass songs/artists I like and then play along. The fun thing about bluegrass is that, like the blues, the basic form is fairly easy, but there’s so much that can be done within the form.
@jhjennis
Jim.
I cannot see it in the near future.
Justin does not specialise in bluegrass and I don’t believe any of us Approved Teachers do.
It would be outside our wheel house, as they say.
