Well, it’s been a while since I posted something and what better than being inspired to do so by testing the Harmony Singer 2
So I ran a test with the sound all recorded via Reaper and the video recorded on my Samsung phone then put the two together in DaVinci. It was purely a test really but I thought, ‘what the hell’ lets post it up, it hasn’t turned out too bad’
For me this just feels like a song that you can a lot of fun with (and I do) so it seemed like the fitting place for it. The original was Albert Hammond in 1976.
Whilst I do use my looper and Trio + from time to time, generally I do so whilst only playing not playing & singing. Using the Harmony of course requires us to not only play & sing but then to tap in and out the harmony at the required times At first it was very strange feel doing all 3 together & depending on the song it sometimes feels more natural than others.
Anyways, enough babbling.
Feel free to offer up any critique that you might see fit. Otherwise just enjoy.
Oh man, what an understatement! That was so tight rhythm-wise and the singing was great too! I’m a fan!
With a performance as good, it may happen that you’re thrown out of Justin guitar pupilship or worse, obliged to become teacher and moderator
So, that pedal makes the harmonies and they’re not static?.. I mean, not always strictly thirds or fifths or so, but is aware of the scale or chord played? (Looked quickly for a description but didn’t understand it thoroughly)
Here, in this song, it works great in any case!
Thanks to all for your comments, feedback etc and taking the time to listen.
Thanks Rogier, and I take that as high praise indeed coming from you, thank you.
Thanks Michael, I’m sure the local cafe would be thrilled
Thanks Dom, maybe a little bit too kind but thanks, I was happy.
I have multiple settings I can choose from above and below what is being sung/played. I find that to be the 3rd above, 5th above and 3rd & 5th above together sound the best. The ones above and below or just below seem to sound weirdly low to me.
I also find that less is more, and use in certain songs and only in parts seems to yield best results.
Thanks again for the comments.
And thanks to all again that took the time to listen and comment, always happy for feedback and constructive critique, thanks guys
Superb, Craig. The harmony sounded fabulous. Your set up is spot on. Guitar soundeds great, sounds like some fx on that as well. So all in all a tip-top production.
That was terrific Craig, I haven’t heard that song in ages. Well done.
Lovely clean strumming and the vocal with harmonies was great.
Was the tap on the guitar a signal to turn on/off the harmony?
You’re right about less is more. That’s usually the case with fx.
Crackin’ job, Craig
That (esp. if combined with a Trio+ rhythm section would make you sound like a full one-man band at any OM.
I’ve only started experiencing the joy of trying to sing harmonies. Of course, the main problem is trying to find someone who’ll sing the main melody
The harmoniser would take all that fun away from me and give it to a machine that does a much better job
Cool bit of kit
Oh, yes, excellent performance as everyone else has already said
good idea but no, I saw the method used and just thought that it added a bit of fun to the song. It was also a good exercise in timing for me.
Thanks for listening.
Thanks @brianlarsen. Funny that but I tried to get a drum backing that I liked with the Trio+ because that’s actually what I wanted to do but they were all too busy for my liking and I couldn’t seem to produce anything that felt right to me So, I dropped the percussion idea.
Really enjoyed your rendition of “It Never Rains”, it was a really good production! Good guitar, good vocals, just a very solid AVOYP!
I was especially impressed by your Harmony 2 pedal & immediately checked into getting one - however my enthusiasm was dulled by the reviews I saw. Do you experience reliability issues with your pedal? Even 3 & 4 star reviews commented on how the pedal just didn’t work sometimes… that it seemed to have a mind of it’s own! So, since you’re the only person who I know has one, I’m curious about your experience with it!
As I haven’t had it long it’s hard for me to offer any true feedback. I have found it to be a great little unit with several really useful features for me. Since playing round with it, I have had no problems. The only thing I need to work out is why when it is plugged into my Audio Interface if I increase the channel gain anywhere past the midpoint, I get a lot of static type noise on it. Now this may well not actually be a problem as I am still getting good volume from the channel although the waveform in Reaper looks weak? anyway, something to work out but not affecting the use of the unit.
Early in my “Gear Acquisition Phase”, I have purchased without looking at reviews… this caused several items to be returned because I didn’t buy “smart”…… so now I have been paying more attention to reviews & when able, talking to people who actually own what interests me! I know TC electronics has an overall good reputation, although one of my coworkers claims that he’s ended up returning every single item he’s ever purchased from that company…
Good to hear that it works for you & again, the sound you achieved is very enjoyable! I’m looking forward to hearing you use it again in the future!
