Jam recording -On the beginner course around 4 months in

Hey guys,
This is my first time recording anything, I don’t think the audio quality is too good. Its just a short snippet of a jam session I was recording.
I think I can deffinately play this better if I practice it but it was mostly improv with a few chords I was playing around with.
Any feedback is appreciated, its my first time posting.

Sweet, cool sounding line, for a verse going in to a chorus or maybe even the chorus repeating for the outro, with that cool build up. Sounds like a cool sound to work on. Good thing you recorded it. I seem to do things and never remember that cool melody or cool sounding run of spunds i did the might before. But yeah, now I grab a video immediately. Keep up the great work.

Hi @Mojito10 welcome to JustinGuitar and the Community.
Kudos for recording and sharing your recording.
It sounds like you were having a lot of fun - the sort of blast that you would do at the end of a practice session when you just go for it and explore making sounds.
The only feedback I would give is to ask if you are also doing the structured learning. You mention you’re 4 months in, how are you getting on with the beginner course and content itself?

@Ontime

Thanks for the kind words! It might be good for something original, I’ve been playing with these chords and voicings for a couple of days now, but I don’t think I have the full chops to construct an arragment, I wish I had some drums and bass to jam with, I think it would be much easier to come up with something like that

@Richard_close2u

Thank you and glad to be here. You’re right I had tons of fun, good release of energy on the guitar.
I’m doing the structured learning in parralel to playing things I come up with, I think its a good balanced approach of creativity and the technical skills needed so I can improve my “toolbox”. Some weeks its a bit harder to stay disciplined to continue doing the modules, but when I think about how much they’ve thought me just in a couple of months I usually sit down and do them.
Currently I’m on the fingerstyle part, which isn’t really exactly my cup of tea, so I think im procrastinating a bit.
I promised myself I would finish the whole beginner course and then reward myself with a new guitar so that’s good motivation :joy:

Hi Kosta, sounds nice! :slight_smile:
especially considering you say that you started only 4 monthy ago!

I was going to add some bass and drums just for fun, but wasn’t able to download the file.
To jam along with, you could also use

  • a normal looper pedal (maybe a bit early, but it seems you’re progressing quite fast?)
  • Or, those looper pedals like a Trio+ which was talked about in a few threads here,
  • or me personally, sometimes I use a DAW for recording, and then sometimes, I play along with virtual bassists or drummer vsts on my DAW. These are also nice practice companions if you already use a DAW.

That was was awesome! It has a great vibe and I love your sound!

For four months it’s sounding :+1:. Chords are sounding clean. Keep on practicing and don’t forget, rhythm is king :wink:. Pretty sure ya fell outta the boat a few times but for most seemed clean and smooth!! I really liked the feel of it. Especially when you went from 1/8 note strumming to 1/4…the quarters were almost all bang on but the eights seemed to roam a bit.

Rock on!!!
Darren

An interesting jam, and I’m sure fun to play.

Your balanced approach sounds doable, but a bit of friendly advice would be to set goals with Justin’s lessons, be very disciplined in doing and practicing the lessons and not just when you think about them. Try for 20, 30 minutes a day if possible and not 2 hours one day and then skip a day or two.
I say these things because I know they work! How do I know? I tried for over 50 years, on and off, to learn to play. Once I started with Justin’s method and started setting real goals, and being disciplined about practice and actually learning, it all came together.
Yes, it gets boring at times and can be discouraging at times, but if you stick with the program, you’ll be rewarded. Sure, jam around and have some fun but only after you’ve done the lessons and your serious practice routine. Good luck on your journey.

Hi Kosta and welcome! Congratulations on sharing your first recording with us…it sounds really good and I can’t believe you’re only 4 months in! Thanks for sharing, very inspirational!
